In chronic alert rabbits, both transient and sustained influence of the nucleus lateralis posterior upon visual cortical responses to the light flashes, were shown. The transient influences were revealed by an increase of the responses amplitude in the nucleus lateralis posterior and by a decrease of the amplitude during the K depression. The sustained influences took part in forming of thalamo-cortical responses in visual cortex. This reciprocity was particularly obvious during pulse stimulation of the nucleus lateralis posterior. The sustained influences were more significant than the transient ones.

The present study has investigated whether circulating estrogen level variations in the pro-estrus and estrus phases of the intact rats and estrogen depletion in the ovariectomized animals (OVX) adjust the formalin-induced nociceptive behaviors. The hypothalamus plays a crucial role in regulating feeding behavior in fish. In this Review, we aim to summarise current knowledge on specific mechanisms for sensing glucose, fatty acids and amino acids in fish, and to consider how this information is integrated in the hypothalamus to modulate feed intake. In fish, specific neuronal populations in the nucleus lateralis tuberalis (NLTv) of the hypothalamus are equipped with nutrient sensors and hormone receptors, allowing them to respond to changes in metabolite levels and hormonal signals.

We previously observed lifelong endurance exercise (LLE) influenced quadriceps whole-muscle and myofiber size in a fiber-type and sex-specific manner. The current follow-up exploratory investigation examined myofiber size regulators and myofiber size distribution in vastus lateralis biopsies from these same LLE men (n = 21, 74 ± 1 years) and women (n = 7, 72 ± 2 years) as well as old, healthy nonexercisers (OH; men: n = 10, 75 ± 1 years; women: n = 10, 75 ± 1 years) and young exercisers (YE; men: n = 10, 25 ± 1 years; women: n = 10, 25 ± 1 years). LLE exercised ~5 days/week, ~7 h/week for the previous 52 ± 1 years.
