Introduction: Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a rare lesion, whose exact pathogenesis is still not fully understood. Generally, it is more frequently encountered in the mandible than in the maxilla and in the posterior than in the anterior aspect of the jaws. Cases of central mucoepidermoid carcinomas are rarely mentioned in the literature, and therefore, additional information concerning this type of lesion is needed.

Case Report: In the present paper, we report an extremely unusual case of a central mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the anterior region of the mandible of a 37-year-old female patient. The diagnosis and the surgical management of the tumor along with the reconstructive techniques utilized to restore the mandible and a 6-year follow-up are discussed.

Discussion: Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma is an unusual tumor of the jaws, especially in the anterior region. It is only locally aggressive and has most frequently a good prognosis if treated with wide surgical excision.

A 20-year-old female underwent a health checkup that revealed an abnormal shadow in the left upper lung field on a chest radiograph. A further examination with chest computed tomography( CT) showed a 25 mm solid tumor in the center of B1+2 in the left upper lobe. A biopsy of the tumor obstructing the left B1+2 was performed during bronchoscopy, and a pathological study diagnosed it as mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lung.

Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma with eosinophilia (SMECE) is a rare thyroid malignancy typically linked to chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. We present the first documented case of SMECE in Georgia, involving a 41-year-old woman with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. A 16 mm hypoechoic thyroid nodule was detected on routine ultrasound, and fine needle aspiration categorized it as Bethesda V.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on treating locally advanced buccal mucosa cancer, primarily through surgery and postoperative radiotherapy with specific chemotherapy regimens, including Cisplatin and 5-Fluorouracil.
  • It evaluates the effectiveness of de-escalated treatment using ipsilateral face radiotherapy, which targets only the affected side of the face to improve functions like chewing and mitigate side effects.
  • A total of 54 patients were reviewed retrospectively, revealing treatment patterns and outcomes, including indications for radiation based on tumor margins and lymph node involvement, along with one patient's alternative treatment approach leading to poor outcomes.
