"Non-Aromatic Very rich in Steranes" (NAVS) naphthalan is a purified natural oil derivative, abundant in steranes (geogenic "steroids"). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of NAVS in the treatment of oral lichen planus (OLP) and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). We used NAVS oil in adhesive paste in 11 patients with clinically and histologically proven OLP (open label), and in 7 patients with RAS (double blind randomized; topical betamethasone in adhesive paste used as control). The severity of the OLP lesions was objectively scored. The number and diameter of RAS lesions were assessed on days 0, 3, and 5. The intensity of pain and discomfort was determined using visual analogue scale (VAS) and "Oral health impact profile" (OHIP-14) before and after therapy. OLP cumulative activity scores on days 0 and 28 were 101.5 and 48.5, respectively (t=5.99; P=0.0001). Using NAVS for 28 days resulted in 52.2% overall clinical improvement. Cumulative OHIP-14 scores on days 0 and 28 were 210 and 142, respectively (t=5.65; P=0.0002). Out of a total of 7 patients with RAS, 4 of them were treated with NAVS and 3 with topical corticosteroids. There were no statistically significant differences in improvement rate between the two groups (lesion number (day 3 P=0.29; day 5 P=0.32); lesion diameter (day 3 P=0.64; day 5 P=0.74)). NAVS successfully reduced the clinical signs and symptoms of OLP, and reduced the number, diameter, and symptoms in patients with RAS, statistically comparable with corticosteroids.

One hallmark of cancer is the upregulation and dependency on glucose metabolism to fuel macromolecule biosynthesis and rapid proliferation. Despite significant pre-clinical effort to exploit this pathway, additional mechanistic insights are necessary to prioritize the diversity of metabolic adaptations upon acute loss of glucose metabolism. Here, we investigated a potent small molecule inhibitor to Class I glucose transporters, KL-11743, using glycolytic leukemia cell lines and patient-based model systems.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are emerging as an important class of drugs in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and obesity. There are rising concerns of pulmonary aspiration with these medications due to drug-induced gastroparesis. While definitive association is uncertain, it is essential to be prudent and manage these patients as per the current evidence and recommendations.

Background: Undiagnosed and untreated atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) can result in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). To obtain an accurate diagnosis, it is crucial to recognize the symptoms and signs suggesting renal artery stenosis (RAS) and perform appropriate diagnostic and treatment procedures afterward.
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 60-year-old female patient with hypertensive crisis, acute heart failure (HF), and pulmonary edema as the initial signs of acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by right RAS and left renal artery occlusion in the presence of severe aortic atherosclerosis revealed on computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the abdomen.

Acquired resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs is the primary cause of treatment failure in the clinic. While multiple factors contribute to this resistance, increased expression of ABC transporters-such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp), breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP), and multidrug resistance proteins-play significant roles in the development of resistance to various chemotherapeutics. We found that Erastin, a ferroptosis inducer, was significantly cytotoxic to NCI/ADR-RES, a P-gp-expressing human ovarian cancer cell line.

Several microRNAs (miRNAs) emerged as powerful regulators of fibrotic processes, "fibromiRs", and can also influence the expression of genes responsible for the generation of reactive oxygen species, "redoximiRs". We aimed to investigate whether plasma exosomes from hypertensive and diabetes patients are enriched in fibromiRs and redoximiRs using deep sequencing technology and their association with relevant signalling pathways implicated in oxidative stress and fibrogenesis by GO terms and KEGG pathways. RNA-Seq analysis from P-EXO identified 31 differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs in patients compared to controls, of which 77% are biofluid specific.
