The structural and morphometric features of the adrenocortical substance (ACS) were investigated in adult (5 mos.) and aged (24 mos.) albino male rats during single and prolonged ACTH administration (Synachten-Depot, Ciba). In single administration of a large dose of ACTH (50 micrograms per 100 g of body mass) to adult rats hypertrophy of ACS secretory cells was marked to a greater extent (by 105.9%), and the area of ACS cell nuclei was increased after the administration of a smaller dose of ACTH (25 micrograms per 100 g of body mass). In old animals the administration of a smaller dose of the hormone resulted in an increased area of nuclei and cytoplasm of ACS cells (by 55%). In prolonged administration of the hormone during 14 days an increase in the sizes of nuclei and cytoplasm of ACS cells was observed both in adult and aged rats. However in the adrenal glands of old rats, cell hypertrophy was less marked than that in adult animals (134 and 186.2%, respectively) and was accompanied by destructive changes in a portion of cells. In 95% the results of morphometry were obtained in the confidence interval using a Leitz-ASM unit (FRG) for semiautomatic image analysis. The differences were statistically significant.

Hypercalcemia is a frequently encountered laboratory finding in endocrinology, warranting accurate clinical and laboratory evaluation to identify its cause. While primary hyperparathyroidism and malignancies represent the most common causes, many other etiologies have been described, including some reports of hypercalcemia secondary to adrenal insufficiency. On the contrary, hypoparathyroidism is a relatively common cause of hypocalcemia, often arising as a complication of thyroid surgery.

Glucocorticoid resistance syndrome (GRS) is caused by inactivating pathogenic variants in the glucocorticoid receptor gene . Reduced glucocorticoid receptor signaling leads to decreased tissue sensitivity to cortisol and resultant biochemical hypercortisolism without the classic clinical features of Cushing syndrome. Patients variably present with signs and symptoms of mineralocorticoid and androgen excess from ACTH overstimulation of the adrenal cortex.

Objectives: Moebius syndrome (MS) is a rare congenital non-progressive rhombencephalic disorder mostly characterised by abducens and facial nerve palsy, but with a multifaceted clinical presentation. Isolated or multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies in the setting of MS have been occasionally reported, but the simultaneous involvement of three or more hypothalamic-pituitary axes has never been described. We hereby report the case of a girl with MS that showed a co-occurrence of GH-, TSH- and ACTH-deficiency.

Cushing syndrome due to ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion (EAS) is rare and may progress rapidly, making treatment very challenging. We report a 27-year-old woman with metastatic neuroendocrine tumor (NET) who presented with sudden onset and rapidly progressing fatigue, muscle weakness, and weight gain. Laboratory findings confirmed severe EAS with new onset hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, and hyperglycemia.
