A mini-atlas of the brain is designed to help students and young researchers who are not familiar with neuroanatomy. In the mini-atlas, a limited number of important nuclei and fiber tracts are shown on a small number of brain sections from posterior end to the anterior end of the brain. The first mini-atlas was introduced for the rat brain (Watson et al., 2010). Here we present a mini-atlas of the common marmoset (Callithrix jaccus), which is one of representative experimental primates for modern neuroscience. We further discuss the differences of brain structures between rodents and primates.

Epilepsy surgery is the therapy of choice for many patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. Recognizing and describing ictal and interictal patterns with intracranial electroencephalography (EEG) recordings is important in order to most efficiently leverage advantages of this technique to accurately delineate the seizure-onset zone before undergoing surgery. In this seminar in epileptology, we address learning objective "1.

The squirrelfish, which live in visually complex coral reefs, have very large eyes and a special dual-system "day and night vision" retina. They also have atypical expansions of brain areas involved in processing visual information. The midbrain tectum sends information diencephalic relay to two enlarged dorsal telencephalic regions.

In order to verify the existence of the ventral and posterodorsal tegmental nuclei and to extend previous findings regarding the dorsal tegmental nucleus in the human brainstem, studies were conducted using cyto- and chemoarchitectonics, and computer reconstruction techniques. Serial sections of five brainstems from adults with no known neurological disorders were stained for Nissl substance, acetylcholinesterase, and substance P. The topography, cytoarchitecture, and acetylcholinesterase reactivity of the tegmental nuclei were presented in a mini-atlas depicting sections cut in transverse and sagittal planes.
