In muscle dystrophy studies, registration of histological image with MRI image volume enables cross validation of MRI biomarkers using pathological result. However, correlation of 2D histology slice with 3D MRI volume is technically challenging due to the potentially non-orthogonal slice plane and incomplete or distorted histological slice. This paper presents an efficient method to directly perform the 2D-3D registration. The method is unique in that it uses smart phone as a navigation tool for initial alignment followed by an overlap invariant mutual information-based refinement. Experimental results using animal muscle samples images from a 3T MRI and HE stained histological images show that the proposed method is capable of aligning the histological slice with an oblique slice in MR volume.

Cuprizone (CPZ) is a widely used toxin that induces demyelinating diseases in animal models, producing multiple sclerosis (MS)-like pathology in rodents. CPZ is one of the few toxins that triggers demyelination and subsequent remyelination following the cessation of its application. This study examines the functional consequences of CPZ-induced demyelination and the subsequent recovery of neural communication within the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), with a particular focus on interhemispheric connectivity via the corpus callosum (CC).

Perifascial areolar tissue (PAT) transplant is a technique in which a sheet of connective tissue on the fascia is harvested and transplanted to the wound bed. PAT engraftment fails when the exposed area of tendons, bones, or artificial materials is large. On the other hand, combination of tissue transplant and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) improves the survival rate of the transplanted tissue.

Background And Objective: Cerebral aneurysms occur as balloon-like outpouchings in an artery, which commonly develop at the weak curved regions and bifurcations. When aneurysms are detected, understanding the risk of rupture is of immense clinical value for better patient management. Towards this, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) studies can improve our understanding of the mechanics behind aneurysm initiation, progression, and rupture.

Introduction: Largemouth bass is an economically important farmed freshwater fish species that has delicious meat, no intermuscular thorns, and rapid growth rates. However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying the different growth and developmental stages of this fish have not been reported.
Methods: In this study, we performed histological and transcriptomic analyses on the brain and dorsal muscles of largemouth bass at different growth periods.

Studies showed that contaminants adhered to the surface of nano-polystyrene microplastics (NPs) have a toxicological effect. Juveniles tilapia were dispersed into four groups: the control group A, 75 nm NPs exposed group B, 5 ng·L 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexabromodiphenyl ether group C (BDE), and 5 ng·L BDE + 75 nm MPs group D, and acutely exposed for 2, 4 and 8 days. The hepatic histopathological change, enzymatic activities, transcriptomics, and proteomics, have been performed in tilapia.
