In wireless body area sensor networking (WBASN) applications such as gastrointestinal (GI) tract monitoring using wireless video capsule endoscopy (WCE), the performance of out-of-body wireless link propagating through different body media (i.e. blood, fat, muscle and bone) is still under investigation. Most of the localization algorithms are vulnerable to the variations of path-loss coefficient resulting in unreliable location estimation. In this paper, we propose a novel robust probabilistic Bayesian-based approach using received-signal-strength (RSS) measurements that accounts for Rayleigh fading, variable path-loss exponent and uncertainty in location information received from the neighboring nodes and anchors. The results of this study showed that the localization root mean square error of our Bayesian-based method was 1.6 mm which was very close to the optimum Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) and significantly smaller than that of other existing localization approaches (i.e. classical MDS (64.2mm), dwMDS (32.2mm), MLE (36.3mm) and POCS (2.3mm)).

The thin soil layer with uneven distribution in karst areas facilitates the migration of phosphorus (P) to groundwater, threatening the safety of water sources seriously. To offer a scientific guidance for water pollution control and land use planning in karst areas, this study examined the relationships between land use and P in groundwater and surface water, and quantified the phosphate sources in Gaoping river basin, a small typical watershed in karst areas. Spatial distribution analysis revealed that the highest mean P concentrations in groundwater and surface water were in farmland and construction-farmland zones, respectively.

Our proposed tri-level optimization framework utilizes predictors, which are trained on a small amount of data, as well as a fair and class-balanced predictor at the middle and lower levels. To effectively overcome saddle points for minority classes, our lower-level formulation incorporates sharpness-aware minimization.

To improve the efficiency and accuracy of water quality model parameter calibration and avoid local optima and the phenomenon in which different parameters have the same effect, this paper proposed a novel Bayesian-based water quality model parameter calibration method. Using Bayesian inference, the parameter calibration problem was converted into a posterior probability function sampling problem, which was sampled using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm. The convergence speed of the calibration was further improved by setting the optimized initial sampling value.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a lethal blood cancer that is characterized by an abnormal increased number of immature lymphocytes in the blood or bone marrow. For effective treatment of ALL, early assessment of the disease is essential. Manual examination of stained blood smear images is current practice for initially screening ALL.
