We describe a case of a 5-year-old girl with onchocerciasis. The patient was recently adopted from Ethiopia and presented with a firm, raised nodule on the midportion of the forehead. Initially, Langerhans cell histiocytosis with bone involvement was suspected; however, histopathologic analysis of the excised nodule revealed the presence of a young-adult, female Onchocerca volvulus worm. This case exemplifies the importance of recognizing the key morphologic characteristics of adult O. volvulus worms isolated from pediatric patients in nonendemic areas to ensure adroit clinical management.

Background: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a highly malignant soft tissue tumor derived from primitive embryonal mesenchymal tissue that differentiates into striated skeletal muscle. Despite the improved outcome based on the EFS and OS using the three different treatment modalities-chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical treatment, the survival of patients depends on their IRS groups-pathological and surgical. On the other hand in the last thirty years a great improvement of the five-year overall survival (OS) of children with RMS have been observed based on the results of large multinational collaborative trials and successive studies dedicated to children, though prognosis is variable and dependent on several factors including histologic variant, primary sites of the tumor, extent of disease (disease resectability), and molecular-level characteristics.

  • Trichothiodystrophy (TTD) is a rare genetic disorder that presents with brittle hair, photosensitivity, scaly skin, and stunted growth, leading to a high mortality rate in children mainly due to infections.
  • A case report highlights a five-year-old boy with these symptoms who was diagnosed with TTD after genetic testing during treatment for a dental infection.
  • The report emphasizes the need for comprehensive evaluation of pediatric patients to improve diagnosis and care for genetic disorders like TTD, involving a collaborative approach among healthcare providers.

Time words like "yesterday" and "tomorrow" are abstract, and are interpreted relative to the context in which they are produced: the word "tomorrow" refers to a different point in time now than in 24 h. We tested 112 three- to five-year-old English- and Hindi-speaking children on their knowledge of "yesterday" and "tomorrow," which are represented by the same word in Hindi-Urdu: "kal." We found that Hindi learners performed better than English learners when tested on actual past and future events, but that performance for hypothetical events was poor for both groups.

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a rare condition involving the recurrent growth of benign papillomas in the respiratory tract caused exclusively by human papillomavirus (HPV). We present the case of a five-year-old child who arrived at the emergency department with severe respiratory distress, hoarseness, and biphasic stridor. The patient required urgent transfer to the operating room for the emergency debridement of papillomas.
