A 10-week feeding study was conducted to examine the effects of dietary tryptophan (Trp) levels on the growth performance and protein metabolism of hybrid grouper (♀ × ♂) with the aim of determining the optimal Trp requirement. Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic experimental diets were formulated, containing varying levels of Trp (0.26%, 0.

Alfalfa silage due to its high protein can lead to easier feeding management, but its high proportion of rumen-degradable protein can reduce rumen nitrogen utilization. Nevertheless, increasing dietary energy can enhance ruminal microbial protein synthesis. Thirty-two Suffolk female sheep were used in this study, with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatment.

Amino acid auxotrophy refers to an organism's inability to synthesize one or more amino acids that are required for cell growth. In microbiome research, co-cultures of amino acid auxotrophs are often used to investigate metabolite cross-feeding interactions and model community dynamics. Thus far, it has been implicitly assumed that amino acids are mainly cross-fed between these auxotrophs.

In mammals, the melatonin (Mel) concentration in the gastrointestinal tract is 400 times greater than in the pineal gland. However, the origin of Mel in the gastrointestinal tract and its role in reproductive regulation remains unclear. Therefore, we analyzed three potential Mel sources (feed, microorganisms, and the rumen wall) for their contribution to high Mel levels in the rumen and their biological effects.

Fecal microbiota transplantation has been vital for establishing whether host phenotypes can be conferred through the microbiome. However, whether the existing microbial ecology along the mouse gastrointestinal tract can be recapitulated in germ-free mice colonized with stool remains unknown. We first identified microbes and their predicted functions specific to each of six intestinal regions in three cohorts of specific pathogen-free mice spanning two facilities.
