The study of transient and variable events, including novae, active galactic nuclei, and black hole binaries, has historically been a fruitful path for elucidating the evolutionary mechanisms of our universe. The study of such events in the millimeter and submillimeter is, however, still in its infancy. Submillimeter observations probe a variety of materials, such as optically thick dust, which are hard to study in other wavelengths.

Brewers' spent grain (BSG), the major by-product of the brewery industry, has high nutritional value, making it suitable for upcycling into products such as healthy, and sustainable cookies. Nonetheless, the incorporation of BSG in cookies can impact their quality, given the increased fiber and protein content. This work explored the effect of replacing wheat flour with BSG at 50% and 75% in cookie formulations, focusing on physical, chemical, and sensory properties.

Understanding user challenges with light dosimeters is crucial for designing more acceptable devices and advancing light exposure research. We systematically evaluated the usability and acceptability of a light dosimeter (lido) with 29 participants who wore the dosimeter near the corneal plane of the eye for 5 days. Common reasons for not wearing the dosimeter included exercise, recharging, wet environments, public places, and discomfort.

Article Synopsis
  • In X-ray microtomography, flat field images are crucial for normalizing sample projections, but issues arise due to the fast data collection and bulky devices in synchrotron facilities.
  • Researchers developed a deep-learning method using an improved pix2pixHD model to generate flat fields from CT projections, significantly improving the accuracy of artefact correction compared to conventional techniques.
  • The new method not only reduces systematic errors during image normalization but also generalizes well across different low Z material samples, making it effective for dynamic CT imaging of various processes.

The Women Dentists' Network is a professional organisation, established to empower and support women in dentistry to pursue their passions, overcome challenges, and thrive in all aspects of dentistry. In tribute to the British television personality, Dr Uchenna Okoye, known for her role in 10 Years Younger, the Women Dentists' Network - of which Dr Okoye was a founding member - held a competition for dental students.
