A small molecule modified UiO series MOFs for simultaneous detection of Fe and Zn.

Talanta

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, College of Sciences, Northeastern University, Shenyang, 110819, China. Electronic address:

Iron and zinc are two metal ions with important roles in biology, industry and the environment, however, the excess or deficiency of both Fe and Zn can have negative effects on organisms and environment. Therefore, the development of efficient method for simultaneous detection of Fe and Zn provides timely information on metal content, simplifies operations and improves efficiency. In this work, a small molecule (COOH-BPEA) of recognizing Zn modified the four metal-organic-framework (MOF) (UiO-66-X(66, OH, NH and OH/NH)) was developed for the simultaneous detection of Fe and Zn.

Repercussion of SARS-CoV-2 on the Sexual Function in Males Updated Review.

Infect Disord Drug Targets

December 2024

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bengal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research, Durgapur, 713212, West Bengal, India.

SARS-CoV-2, also called coronavirus causes SARS-CoV-2 or severe acute respir-atory syndrome, a highly transmissible disease that has rapidly spread worldwide, straining healthcare systems and leading to a substantial number of fatalities. Interestingly, SARS-CoV-2 has revealed a gender difference, with males dying at a greater rate and with more severe cases than women. It's worth noting that the male reproductive system might be par-ticularly susceptible to damage during periods of moderate to severe sickness, which has been linked to cases of orchitis and erectile dysfunction.

Background: Urothelial carcinoma is a significant health concern in the United States (US), with high mortality and economic burdens. The CheckMate-901 trial showed promising survival benefits for nivolumab combined with gemcitabine and cisplatin followed by nivolumab maintenance therapy (nivolumab-combination) as first-line treatment of unresectable or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC), but its cost-effectiveness is unclear.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the nivolumab-combination versus standard chemotherapy (gemcitabine-cisplatin) for advanced UC from the perspective of healthcare payers in the US.

Background: Microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) represents a distinct molecular phenotype observed in malignant tumors. These tumors typically exhibit high levels of programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and high tumor mutational burden (TMB), resulting in an enhanced response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) therapy. The emergence of ICI has transformed the therapeutic strategy of gastric cancer (GC).

Background: Heart failure (HF) management lacks clarity regarding fluid balance strategies, with some studies suggesting potential benefits of liberal fluid intake. This review aims to evaluate both unrestricted and restricted fluid intake, including sodium restriction, in adult HF.

Methods: A thorough search of electronic databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library, identified relevant studies examining fluid intake effects on adult heart failure patients, categorized by liberal or restricted intake, with subgroup analysis on sodium restriction.
