Activity-based probes (ABPs) are powerful tools for the analysis of active enzyme species in whole proteomes, cells or animals. Quenched fluorescent ABPs (qABPs) can be applied for real time imaging, allowing the visualization of dynamic enzyme activation by fluorescent microscopy. Unfortunately, qABPs are only available for a few enzymes. We here describe the design and synthesis of qABPs for serine proteases based on a phosphonate ester scaffold.

To address the challenges associated with the storage and application of traditional carbon dot (CDs) solutions, this study introduces a cyan fluorescent carbon dot-based hydrogel (CDs-SCH). The hydrogel was synthesized by integrating cyan fluorescent CDs, derived from penicillamine and m-phenylenediamine, with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate (SA), which was then mixed with acrylamide (AM). The resulting CDs-SCH hydrogel was extensively characterized, focusing on its morphology, chemical structure, and fluorescence behavior.

A novel fluorescence sensor utilizing label-free nitrogen self-doped carbon dots (NCDs) was developed for the sensitive, selective, and rapid determination of dichloran fungicide, popularly used in agricultural and horticultural fields. The NCDs were prepared from maleic anhydride and diethylenetriamine via a one-step pyrolysis process. They demonstrated strong blue fluorescence emission with a quantum yield of 12 %.

Three novel D-A-D-structured emitters derived from 9, 10-dithienylanthracene derivatives (DTAs) were synthesized and characterized. These DTAs consist of substituted 9-phenyl-9H-carbazole (BPCB-DTA), triphenylamine (BTPA-DTA) and N, N-dimethylaniline (BDMA-DTA) as donor units, with the phenylacetonitrile group serving as the acceptor. The impact of steric hindrance and electronic effect of the substituents on the optical properties has been thoroughly discussed.

Preparation of the conjugated hypercrosslinked polymers containing phenylenediamine and phenylenetriamine derivatives for fluorescent sensing of three nitrophenols.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

March 2025

Hypercrosslinked polymers (HCPs) are the most promising porous organic polymers for large-scale production due to their easy preparation, extensive raw material source, good stability, and large specific surface area. However, due to the lack of extended conjugability, their application in fluorescence sensing is limited. Herein, three conjugated hypercrosslinked polymers (the conjugated HCPs: TPPDA-DMB, TDPAB-DMB, and MTDAB-DMB) were easily prepared by the Friedel-Craft arylation reactions with phenylenediamine or phenylenetriamine derivatives and p-dimethoxybenzene (DMB).

In this study, a novel analytical method was developed for the determination of bupropion in pharmaceutical formulations and spiked plasma samples using N, S co-doped carbon quantum dots (N,S CQDs) as a fluorescent probe. The N,S CQDs were thoroughly characterized and its optical properties were investigated. The developed N,S CQDs exhibited blue emission at 435 nm upon excitation at 357 nm.
