Objective: An association between endometriosis and the glutathione S-transferase M1 (GSTM1)- and GSTT1-related genes has been proposed on account of the detoxification properties of the GST enzymes. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the polymorphisms and null mutations are associated with the susceptibility to endometriosis.
Methods: The study included 105 women with endometriosis and 150 healthy women with no laparoscopic evidence of disease. Genotyping of the GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms was performed by Multiplex-PCR.
Results: There was a significant association of GSTM1 null and GSTT1 null genotypes with endometriosis both when studied alone (P = 0.001 and P = 0.03, respectively) and in combination (P = 0.00002).
Conclusion: The findings suggest that the GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene deficiency predisposes to endometriosis in a Tunisian population and can confer a significant increased risk when the GST null genotypes are combined.

This study explored the effects of melatonin on cardiac and vascular function, and redox homeostasis in model PAH. Male Wistar rats were divided into: control (CTR), monocrotaline [MCT (60 mg/kg, single dose i.p)], monocrotaline + sildenafil [MCT + SIL (50 mg/kg/day)], and monocrotaline + melatonin [MCT + MEL (10 mg/kg/day)].

Subjects/patients And Methods: We first re-examined a published, in-house whole genome bisulphite sequencing (WGBS) prostate cancer dataset, derived from radical prostatectomy (RP) tissue ( = 15) with median follow-up 19.5 years, to confirm and visualise the association between and patient mortality.

This study characterizes the Aedes aegypti population from Fernando de Noronha Island, Pernambuco, Brazil, prior to implementing the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT). The main objective was to assess changes in glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzyme activity, previously linked to cypermethrin resistance in this population, in 2010. GST activity was measured in both male and female mosquitoes, masse produced in lab, after exposure to ionizing radiation.

Background: Metabolic syndrome heightens cardiovascular disease risk primarily through increased arterial stiffness. We previously demonstrated the involvement of YAP (Yes-associated protein) in high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HFHSD)-induced arterial stiffness via modulation of PPM1B (protein phosphatase Mg/Mn-dependent 1B)-lysine63 (K63) deubiquitination. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the role and mechanisms underlying PPM1B deubiquitination in HFHSD-induced arterial stiffness.

In the field of toxicology, male reproductive hazards attributed to metal exposure is a fast-developing issue. Mercury has been identified as an environmental pollutant that causes potential adverse impacts on organisms. This study aimed to assess the reprotoxic consequences of mercuric chloride (HgCl).
