Purpose: To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and parotid fascia in preventing Frey's syndrome.
Methods: A literature research was performed using Wanfang Database, Chinese Biological Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Scientific Journals database of VIP from 2001 to 2013. Relative ratio (RR) was calculated and meta analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.2.
Results: A total of 16 controlled studies were included. Meta analysis showed that the use of ADM and preservation of the parotid fascia could significantly reduce the risk of Frey's syndrome. The subjective incidence was decreased by 71% and 87%, and objective incidence was reduced by 64% and 85%, respectively. Significant difference was found between ADM and parotid fascia in reducing subjective incidence, in which ADM seemed to be more effective.
Conclusions: The present study suggested that parotid fascia should be adopted as an effective method to reduce Frey's syndrome in most circumstances for patients with benign parotid tumors. For those whose parotid fascia could not be preserved, ADM might be another good choice.

Descriptive cross-sectional study. The greater auricular nerve (GAN) courses over the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) to supply the area of skin over the parotid gland (PG), the lower auricle and over the mastoid. It is vulnerable to injury during rhytidectomies and parotidectomies, resulting in sensory losses and pain.

Benign enlargement of the parotid gland hypertrophy results in a bulky lateral facial contour and esthetic appearance. This study aimed to determine the depth from the skin surface to the parotid fascia, which encompasses the parotid gland. The anatomical properties of the parotid glands were evaluated in 40 patients using ultrasonography.

Background: This study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the minimum fascia-tumour distance (MFTD) in distinguishing deep-lobe benign parotid tumours from superficial-lobe tumours through both an original study and a meta-analysis.
Methods: In this study, we performed a retrospective analysis of data from 91 patients who had been diagnosed with benign parotid tumours. The MFTD values were sourced from preoperative ultrasound examinations.

Salivary collection (SC) following surgery for oral cancer represents an underreported and unrecognized complication. Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of parotideomasseteric fascia flap (PFF) in preventing postoperative SC, comparing its effectiveness with other conventional methods. Between November 2019 and January 2023, 221 patients diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) undergoing wide tumor ablation and neck dissection at Xiangya Hospital were included in the study.
