Objective: To determine the disparities in length of live and age-specific probabilities of death of US Olympians by sex, performance level, and age at debut at the Olympics.
Methods: We apply parametric models of mortality to estimate probabilities of death by age. The best performing model (Gompertz model) is then used to calculate life tables for subpopulations of Olympians.

Competitive athletes are often exposed to extreme physiological loading, resulting in over excessive mechanotransduction during their acute intensive training sessions and competitions. Individual differences in their genetics often affect how they cope with these challenges, as reflected in their high performances. Olympic Medalists are prohibited from providing atypical values in the Hematological Module of the Athlete Biological Passport.

Background And Aims: Winter endurance athletes have a high prevalence of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) and asthma, probably due to repeated and prolonged inhalation of cold and dry air. Heat- and moisture-exchanging devices (HME) warm and humidify inhaled air and prevent EIB. The aim of this study was to share cross-country skiers and biathletes' experiences of training and competition in low temperatures, views on temperature limits, usage of HME, and consequences of cold exposure on their health.

Purpose: Ranking of nations by medal tally is a popular feature of the Olympics, but such ranking is a poor measure of sporting prowess or engagement until the tallies are adjusted for major factors beyond the control of individual nations. Here we estimate and adjust for effects of total population, economy expressed as gross domestic product per capita, absolute latitude and Muslim population proportion on total medal counts in female, male, mixed and all events at the Pyeongchang winter and Tokyo summer Olympics and Paralympics.
Methods: The statistical model was multiple linear over-dispersed Poisson regression.

Mortality in type 1 diabetes, although showing a declining trend, is significantly higher than standard mortality. The case study focuses on a woman who lived for 91 years; she was insulin-dependent for 86 years and has been treated by a single physician - the author - for over 55 years. She was diagnosed with diabetes in 1932 at the age of five.
