Vulvodynia is a chronic pain syndrome in vulva with a prevalence of nearly 15%. Due to poorly understood pathophysiology and lack of efficient treatment frustration is vastly spread among affected women and their physicians. Behavioural, medical and surgical interventions are widely used, but hardly any of them show significance compared to placebo effect. A multidisciplinary treatment is considered to be the new state of the art treatment, but evidence for such a model is hard to find. This article is a review and evaluation of the many treatment models and their evidence.

Repurposing the familiar: Future treatment options against chronic kidney disease.

J Pharm Pharmacol

January 2025

Department of Pharmacy, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Pilani Campus, 333031, Rajasthan, India.

Objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious health issue with rising morbidity and mortality rates. Despite advances in understanding its pathophysiology, effective therapeutic options are limited, necessitating innovative treatment approaches. Also, current frontline treatments that are available against CKD are not uniformly effective and often come with significant side effects.

Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors represent 20-25% of childhood malignancies, with 35-40 new cases annually in Slovakia. Despite treatment advances, high mortality and poor quality of life in a lot of cases persist. This study assesses the clinical features, treatment modalities, and survival rates of pediatric CNS tumor patients in the single largest center in Slovakia.

This narrative review provides a comprehensive overview of the current status, recent advancements, and future directions in the management of metastatic spine disease using both radiotherapy and surgery. Emphasis has been put on the integrated use of radiotherapy and surgery, incorporating recent developments such as separation surgery, active dose sparing of the surgical field, and the implementation of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer implants. Future studies should explore the effects of minimizing the time between radiotherapy and surgery and investigate the potential of vertebral re-ossification after radiotherapy to obviate the need for stabilization surgery.

Predicting few disinfection byproducts in the water distribution systems using machine learning models.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

Concerns regarding disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water persist, with measurements in water treatment plants (WTPs) being relatively easier than those in water distribution systems (WDSs) due to accessibility challenges, especially during adverse weather conditions. Machine learning (ML) models offer improved predictions of DBPs in WDSs. This study developed multiple ML models to predict Trihalomethanes (THMs), Haloacetic Acids (HAAs), Dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN), and N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in WDSs using data collected over 13 years (2008-2020) from 113 water supply systems (WSS) in Ontario.
