HMB-45 (melanocytic cell-specific monoclonal antibody) immunoreactivity has been detected by the immunoperoxidase technique in the cytoplasm of 2 of 100 breast carcinomas. In addition, normal breast lobules and ducts were occasionally found to have positive results in 6 of 100 cases. These findings indicate the need to exercise caution in the interpretation of HMB-45 immunoreactivity for immunohistochemical characterization of neoplasms.

ERBB2/ERBB3-mutated S100/SOX10-positive uterine sarcoma: something new.

Virchows Arch

December 2024

Department of Pathology, University of California San Diego Health, 9300 Campus Point Drive, Suite 1-200, La Jolla, MC 7723, San Diego, CA, 92037, USA.

A distinctive subset of uterine mesenchymal tumors display recurrent genetic fusions involving receptor tyrosine kinases, including NTRK, PDGFB, FGFR1, and RET, presumably leading to aberrant pathway activation. A pair of recent studies have highlighted the existence of a genetic fusion-negative uterine sarcoma that is characterized by activating mutations in ERBB2/ERBB3, CDKN2A deletion, inactivating ATRX mutation, and a S100 + /SOX10 + immunohistochemical profile. This report describes another case of this emerging entity that was diagnosed in a 57-year-old woman.

Ulcerated CRTC1::TRIM11 cutaneous tumor with metastases.

J Cutan Pathol

October 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

CRTC1::TRIM11 cutaneous tumor (CTCT) is a rare skin tumor of uncertain differentiation. In the 49 reported cases, only four cases showed regional or distant metastasis, but follow-up remains limited. Herein, we present a case of metastatic CTCT with ulceration, a histological feature that has not been previously described.

Ovarian mature cystic teratomas comprise tissue derived from all three germ layers and constitute 10-20% of all ovarian neoplasms. Malignant transformation of mature cystic teratomas (MCT) is very rare with an incidence of 0.17-2%.

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) is a mesenchymal tumor thought to originate from perivascular epithelioid cells (PECs). The normal counterpart to PEC, however, has not been identified in any human organ, and the debate as to whether PEComa is related to smooth muscle tumors has persisted for many years. The current series characterizes 4 cases of uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) coexisting with PEComas.

Primary gallbladder melanoma (PGM) is a rare malignancy with only sporadic cases reported in the English literature. We performed a systematic review of the cases published in the PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar databases with the aim of describing the reported clinicopathologic features of PGM. Thirty-six articles reporting on 39 patients were reviewed.
