Objective: To study the effect of repetitive joint loading on the T2(*) assessment of knee joint cartilage.

Materials And Methods: T2(*) mapping was performed in 10 non-professional marathon runners (mean age: 28.7±3.97 years) with no morphologically evident cartilage damage within 48h prior to and following the marathon and after a period of approximately four weeks. Bulk and zonal T2(*) values at the medial and lateral tibiofemoral compartment and the patellofemoral compartment were assessed by means of region of interest analysis. Pre- and post-marathon values were compared.

Results: There was a small increase in the T2(*) after running the marathon (30.47±5.16ms versus 29.84±4.97ms, P<0.05) while the T2(*) values before the marathon and those after the period of convalescence were similar (29.84±4.97ms versus 29.81±5.17ms, P=0.855). Regional analyses revealed lower T2(*) values in the medial tibial plateau (P<0.001).

Conclusions: It appears that repetitive joint loading has a transient influence on the T2(*) values. However, this effect is small and probably not clinically relevant. The low T2(*) values in the medial tibial plateau may be related to functional demand or early cartilage degeneration.

High-Field-Blinded Assessment of Portable Ultra-Low-Field Brain MRI for Multiple Sclerosis.

J Neuroimaging

January 2025

Translational Neuroradiology Section, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Background And Purpose: MRI is crucial for multiple sclerosis (MS), but the relative value of portable ultra-low field MRI (pULF-MRI), a technology that holds promise for extending access to MRI, is unknown. We assessed white matter lesion (WML) detection on pULF-MRI compared to high-field MRI (HF-MRI), focusing on blinded assessments, assessor self-training, and multiplanar acquisitions.

Methods: Fifty-five adults with MS underwent pULF-MRI following their HF-MRI.

Currently, there is a lack of cost-effective and accessible intervention resources for Chinese adolescents with emotional disorders. The Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Adolescents (UP-A), which aims to apply transdiagnostic treatment principles to target core dysfunctions across a range of emotional disorders with a single protocol, could fill this gap. We first modified the UP-A for use in the Chinese cultural context and then assessed its feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy using a single-arm design.

Assessment of the thymus in fetuses prior to spontaneous preterm birth using functional MRI.

Early Hum Dev

January 2025

Department of Women and Children's Health, St Thomas' Hospital, King's College London, London, UK; Department of Perinatal Imaging, St Thomas' Hospital, King's College London, London, UK.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to utilise T2* relaxometry (an indirect method of quantifying tissue oxygenation) to assess the fetal thymus in uncomplicated pregnancies throughout gestation and in a cohort of fetuses that subsequently deliver very preterm.

Methods: A control group of participants with low-risk pregnancies were recruited and retrospectively excluded if they developed any pregnancy related complications after scanning. Participants were recruited who were deemed to be at very high risk of delivery prior to 32 weeks' gestation and retrospectively excluded if they did not deliver prior to this gestation.

Objective To evaluate the stain resistance and color stability of four Clear aligners (CA) brands against various beverages at different intervals, along with assessing the elaboration of cleaning agents. Methods In a strictly controlled lab environment, 48 CAs from four different companies (Invisalign, EON, Clear Cap, and K clear) were immersed for seven days in six different beverages based on their pH (Pepsi, orange juice, milk, coffee, and black tea), as well as a control solution (distilled water). The VITA Easy-Shade compact colorimeter used the Commission International lightening L*a*b* color scheme to evaluate the color change of the aligners at four intervals.

Background: Childhood obesity prevalence remains high, especially in racial and ethnic minority populations with low incomes. This epidemic is attributed to various dietary behaviors, including increased consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary beverages and decreased intake of fruits and vegetables. Interactive, technology-based approaches are emerging as promising tools to support health behavior changes.
