Automation is urgently needed to streamline literature reviews and enhance insight extraction. We explore the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) in key-insights extraction from scientific articles, including OpenAI's GPT-4.

Background: The Annals of Surgical Oncology (ASO) launched a Social Media Committee in 2022 to strategically promote surgical science, boost journal impact, and raise awareness of cutting-edge research. This study investigated the impact of the ASO Social Media Committee on journal visibility, publication engagement, and article-level metrics.
Methods: Manuscripts accepted by ASO and promoted on Twitter/X between 21 September 2020 and 20 September 2023 were evaluated for differences in article and social media metrics.

Background: The EMPIRE (EMpirical Publication Impact and Reach Evaluation) Index is a value-based, multi-component metric framework to assess the impact of medical publications in terms of relevance to different stakeholders. It comprises three component scores (social, scholarly and societal impact), each incorporating related altmetrics that indicate a different aspect of engagement with the publication. Here, we present an exploratory investigation of whether publication types or disease indications influence EMPIRE Index scores.

Abstract: Nearly 4% of pregnant patients have an injury-related visit to the emergency department during their pregnancy. There are important physiologic changes that occur during pregnancy that make managing pregnant trauma patients different from the standard management of a nonpregnant patient. This review discusses these changes and the initial assessment, laboratory, and imaging workups for the pregnant trauma patient.
