We establish a quantitative analogy between polymer grafted nanoparticles (PGNPs) and patchy nanoparticles (NPs). Over much of the experimentally relevant parameter space, we show that PGNPs behave quantitatively like Janus NPs, with the patch size having a universal dependence on the number of grafts and the ratio of the size of the NPs to the grafted chain size. The widely observed anisotropic self-assembly of PGNP into superstructures can thus be understood through simple geometric considerations of single patch models, in the same spirit as the geometry-based surfactant models of Israelachvili.

Background: The conversion of primary bile acids to secondary bile acids by the gut microbiota has been implicated in colonic inflammation. This study investigated the role of gut microbiota related bile acid metabolism in colonic inflammation in both patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a murine model of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis.
Methods: Bile acids in fecal samples from patients with IBD and DSS-induced colitis mice, with and without antibiotic treatment, were analyzed using ultraperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS).

Monitoring the parameters and behavior of plankton makes it possible to assess the state of the aquatic ecosystem and detect the beginning of an environmental disaster at an early stage. In this respect, the most informative method for the in situ plankton study is underwater digital holography. This method allows obtaining information on the size, shape, and location of plankton individuals, as well as performing their classification and biotesting according to their behavioral responses using a submersible holographic camera non-invasively, in real time, and in the automatic mode.

Objective: To explore experiences of pain during medical abortion and provide patient-centred recommendations for improving abortion experience and pain counselling.
Methods: We invited patients of British Pregnancy Advisory Service who underwent medical abortion up to 10 weeks' gestation to participate in an online, English language questionnaire from November 2021 to March 2022. Participants answered questions about pain, method preference, abortion experience, advice, and how they would describe pain experienced to a friend.

species are rich in protein, fiber, minerals, and other nutrients and have various health benefits. The genus is taxonomically difficult due to the high phenotypic plasticity and the spontaneous interspecies introgression and hybridization between species. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the possibilities of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for the taxonomic differentiation of some of the species common in Bulgaria and estimate their polyphenolic compounds.

Background: The cause of acute paediatric hepatitis of unknown aetiology (2022) has not been established despite extensive investigation.
Objective: To summarise the evidence for and against a causal role for human adenovirus (HAdv), adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV-2) and SARS-CoV-2 in outbreaks of paediatric hepatitis in 2022.
Methods: We appraised and summarised relevant evidence for each of the Bradford Hill criteria for causality using quantitative (statistical modelling) and qualitative (narrative coherence) approaches.
