Purpose: This study tested if the protective anti-remodeling effect of GLP-1 agonist Exendin-4 after an acute myocardial infarction (MI) in rats involves inhibition of the Wnt1/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Methods: Rats were divided into sham, sham + Exendin-4 (10 μg/day, i.p), MI, and MI + Exendin-4.

Role of Wnt signaling pathway in progression of sinonasal inverted papilloma to squamous cell carcinoma.

Am J Rhinol Allergy

February 2016

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Changwon-Si, Republic of Korea.

Background: Sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP) is one of the most common benign tumors of the sinonasal area and malignant transformation has frequently been reported. However, the exact mechanism of the transition from benign lesion to malignancy is not known. The Wnt signaling pathway involves a network of multiple signaling glycoproteins that are known to play an important role in embryogenesis and carcinogenesis.

Wnt signaling pathway in non-small cell lung cancer.

J Natl Cancer Inst

January 2014

Affiliation of author: Division of Medical Oncology, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON, Canada.

Wnt/β-catenin alterations are prominent in human malignancies. In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), β-catenin and APC mutations are uncommon, but Wnt signaling is important in NSCLC cell lines, and Wnt inhibition reduces proliferation. Overexpression of Wnt-1, -2, -3, and -5a and of Wnt-pathway components Frizzled-8, Dishevelled, Porcupine, and TCF-4 is common in resected NSCLC and is associated with poor prognosis.

Wnt signaling pathways are involved in embryonic development and adult tissue maintenance and have been implicated in tumorigenesis. Dishevelled (Dvl/Dsh) protein is one of key components in Wnt signaling and plays essential roles in regulating these pathways through protein-protein interactions. Identifying and characterizing Dvl-binding proteins are key steps toward understanding biological functions.
