Staphylococcus aureus is a cause of sepsis and meningitis in very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants. Clinical trials with S. aureus specific antibodies failed to protect VLBW neonates, which may be due to the immune evasive attributes of staphylococcal protein A (SpA). Here we show that mouse monoclonal antibody SpAKKAA-mAb 3F6, which neutralizes the immunoglobulin Fcγ-binding and B cell receptor crosslinking attributes of SpA, protects neonatal mice against S. aureus sepsis and raises protective immunity against subsequent staphylococcal infection. We developed a humanized SpAKKAA-mAb that protects neonatal mice against S. aureus sepsis and may therefore be subjected to clinical testing in VLBW neonates.

Although the role of breast milk in promoting neonatal growth and maintaining intestinal homeostasis is well established, underlying mechanisms by which it protects the intestine from damage remain to be elucidated. Human breast milk-derived exosomes (HMDEs) are newly discovered active signaling vesicles with a diameter of 30-150 nm, which are key carriers of biological information exchange between mother and child. In addition, due to their ability to cross the gastrointestinal barrier, low immunogenicity, good biocompatibility and stability, HMDEs play an important role in regulating intestinal barrier integrity in newborns.

ITFG2 is an intracellular protein known to modulate the immune response of T-cells. Our previous investigation revealed that ITFG2 specifically targets ATP5b to regulate ATP energy metabolism and maintain mitochondrial function, thereby protecting the heart from ischemic injury. However, the role of ITFG2 in ischemic ventricular arrhythmias and its underlying mechanisms have not been previously reported.

Previous studies have identified Cometin - also known as Meteroin-like - to be neuroprotective and beneficial for metabolic disorders. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of different concentrations of recombinant human Cometin (hCometin) on SGN in regard to neuroprotection and neurite outgrowth and to evaluate its neurite guidance potential using a neurite outgrowth chamber.

This study investigated the correlation between quantitative echocardiographic characteristics within 3 days of birth and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and its severity in preterm infants. A retrospective study was conducted on 168 preterm infants with a gestational age of < 34 weeks. Patients were categorized into NEC and non-NEC groups.

Purpose: Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) is a surgical intervention that is still performed in large numbers worldwide and has severe effects in terms of both obstetric and sexual consequences. Due to the increase in immigration, it has become more frequent in many countries. This study aims to compare the labor performance, complications, and postpartum sexual function of Type 3 Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) pregnant women undergoing deinfibulation with Type 3 FGM/C patients without deinfibulation.
