Introduction: Peritonsillar abscesses form between the tonsillar capsule, the superior constrictor, and palatopharyngeus muscles. Physicians traditionally make this diagnosis clinically; however, ultrasound allows clinicians to further identify and differentiate between peritonsillitis, peritonsillar abscess, and phlegmon formation. By increasing both the sensitivity and specificity, ultrasound improves the diagnostic accuracy for patients with peritonsillar abscesses.

Petunia hybrida, widely grown as a bedding plant, has reduced growth and flower quality at temperatures above 30 °C (heat stress), primarily due to heat stress-induced ethylene (ET) production. The gene acdS encodes the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase (ACCD) enzyme, which is known for its role in reducing ET production by breaking down the ET precursor, ACC, in plant tissues. This study investigated the impact of heat stress on both 'Mirage Rose' WT petunia and its acdS-overexpressing transgenic lines.

Of gains and losses: SAMD9/SAMD9L and monosomy 7 in myelodysplastic syndrome.

Exp Hematol

Department of Hematology, Radiation Physics, Coagulation and Oncology, Skane University Hospital, Lund, Skane, Sweden; Department of Gene Therapy and Molecular Medicine, Institution for Laboratory Medicine, Lund University, Lund, Skane, Sweden; Stem Cell Center, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. Electronic address:

SAMD9 and SAMD9L are two interferon-regulated genes located adjacent to each other on chromosome 7q21.2. Germline gain-of-function (GL GOF) mutations in SAMD9/SAMD9L are the genetic cause of MIRAGE syndrome, ataxia-pancytopenia (ATXPC) syndrome, myeloid leukemia syndrome with monosomy 7 (MLSM7), refractory cytopenia of childhood (RCC), transient monosomy 7 in children, SAMD9L-associated autoinflammatory disease (SAAD), and a proportion of inherited aplastic anemia and bone marrow failure syndromes.

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (ENMZL) of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), a rare subtype of B-cell lymphoma, is typically associated with () infection, especially in gastric cases. However, this article presents 2 unique cases of -negative colonic ENMZL, challenging the conventional understanding of the disease. The first case involves an 80-year-old male diagnosed with Stage 1E ENMZL in the descending colon, and the second describes a 74-year-old male with sigmoid colon ENMZL.
