Published: January 2015

Copper(II) complex of 4-amino-3-hydroxy-1-sulphonic acid was synthesized and characterized. Upon addition of nitric oxide, the copper(II) center of the complex in methanol was found to undergo reduction through an unstable copper(II)-nitrosyl intermediate. The formation of the intermediate was confirmed by UV-visible and FT-IR spectroscopy. The reduction of the copper(II) center was accompanied with a simultaneous C-nitrosation of the aromatic ring of the ligand. The C-nitrosation product was isolated and characterized by various spectroscopic analyses.

Investigation of the Photocatalytic Activity of Copper-Modified Commercial Titania (P25) in the Process of Carbon Dioxide Photoreduction.

Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Environment Engineering, Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering, West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, Pułaskiego 10, 70-322 Szczecin, Poland.

The photocatalytic reduction of CO to useful products is an area of active research because it shows a potential to be an efficient tool for mitigating climate change. This work investigated the modification of titania with copper(II) nitrate and its impact on improving the CO reduction efficiency in a gas-phase batch photoreactor under UV-Vis irradiation. The investigated photocatalysts were prepared by treating P25-copper(II) nitrate suspensions (with various Cu concentrations), alkalized with ammonia water, in a microwave-assisted solvothermal reactor.

Copper(II) oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) are used in different industries and agriculture, thus leading to their release to the environment, which raises concerns about their ecotoxicity and biosafety. The main toxicity mechanism of nanometals is oxidative stress as a result of the formation of reactive oxygen species caused by metal ions released from nanoparticles. Bacterial biofilms are more resistant to physical and chemical factors than are planktonic cells due to the extracellular polymeric matrix (EPM), which performs a protective function.

Article Synopsis
  • Control of individual atomic spins is essential for advancements in spintronics, quantum sensing, and quantum information processing, with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) being a effective tool for manipulation.
  • The research presents a new method for self-assembling magnetic organometallic complexes using iron atoms and specific molecules (Cu(dbm) and FePc) on a silver substrate, effectively forming complexes that mimic metallocenes.
  • Magnetic properties of these complexes show a notable Kondo effect, which is explained through density functional theory calculations indicating that the interaction between Fe 3d-orbitals and benzene π-orbitals enhances Kondo screening, offering insights for designing hybrid organometallic systems.

Background: Scedosporium apiospermum is a multidrug-resistant filamentous fungus that causes localized and disseminated diseases. Our group has previously described that metalbased complexes containing copper(II) or silver(I) ions complexed with 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6- dione (phendione) inhibited the viability of S. apiospermum conidial cells.
