Introduction: The technique of selective embolization has been applied for years in the treatment of vascular anomalies, severe hemorrhage, and for benign and malignant tumors. Some hypervascular skeletal metastases are prone to massive hemorrhage.
Case Presentation: We describe the cases of two patients with thyroid carcinoma presenting with neuromuscular symptoms due to large skeletal metastases in the shoulder and sternum respectively. Pre-operative percutaneous selective catheterizations of the arteries feeding the metastatic tumors were performed, followed by infusion of gelfoam. The procedures were technically successful in both patients without adverse effects or bleeding. Complete resections of the skeletal metastases were then performed without substantial bleeding.
Conclusion: Selective embolization is an effective treatment for bony metastases from thyroid cancer.

This study aimed to analyze the baseline clinical characteristics, as well as the clinical features and risk factors of early death (ED) in older patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). A retrospective analysis was conducted on 198 consecutive older patients (age ≥ 50 years) with newly diagnosed APL who received arsenic trioxide alone as induction therapy, with 354 younger patients (age < 50 years) as controls. Ten easily obtainable clinical parameters were selected.

A common assumption of plant hydraulic physiology is that high hydraulic efficiency must come at the cost of hydraulic safety, generating a trade-off that raises doubts about the possibility of selecting both productive and drought-tolerant herbaceous crops. Wetland plants typically display high productivity, which requires high hydraulic efficiency to sustain transpiration rates coupled to CO uptake. Previous studies have suggested high vulnerability to xylem embolism of different wetland plants, in line with expected trade-offs.

Background: To explore the association of social isolation with venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk and the mediating role of metabolomics on this association.
Methods: Overall, 236 026 participants free of VTE and with complete metabolomics data at baseline from the UK Biobank were included. Social isolation was constructed based on the frequency of friend/family visits, weekly group activities, and living alone.

Background And Objective: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs is a critical global vascular disease. Accurately assessing and predicting the efficacy of DVT treatment remains a significant challenge due to a lack of understanding of the mechanisms by which the level of patient-specific embolization and the rate of drug injection affect thrombolytic therapy.
Methods: In this study, we used the computed tomographic venography (CTV) clinical method to obtain patient-specific parameters, and the flow-solid interaction (FSI) method combined with biochemical response modeling of thrombolysis to analyze patient-specific hemodynamic and biomechanical characteristics and to quantitatively assess the effects of three vessel embolism levels (VEL) versus two drug injection rates (DIR) on bifurcated femoral venous thrombolytic therapy.

Objective: To determine procedural feasibility, safety, and short-term efficacy in dogs with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR) undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) with a canine-specific device.
Design: Prospective, single-arm (uncontrolled), single-institution clinical feasibility study.
Animals: Fifty client-owned dogs with severe degenerative MR operated over a 28-month period.
