This single-center retrospective study was designed to evaluate the use of basiliximab as an alternative rescue maintenance immunosuppression in situations where standard maintenance immunosuppression is not tolerated after a pancreas transplant. All pancreas transplants performed between January 11, 2006, and January 6, 2022, were reviewed. All recipients received rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG) induction with tacrolimus + sirolimus maintenance for simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK) and additional low-dose mycophenolic acid for pancreas transplant alone (PTA).

Neuroprotective drugs as adjunctive therapy for adults with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains contentious. This study summarizes the latest evidence regarding the benefits of neuroprotective agents combined with intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) intravenous thrombolysis. This study conducted a structured search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Wanfang Data, and CNKI databases from their inception to March 2024.

Background: Chronic cerebral ischemia (CCI) is a significant health issue characterized by hypoperfusion due to damage or occlusion of the cerebral or carotid arteries. CCI may lead to progressive cognitive impairment that is considered as a prelude to neurodegenerative diseases, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have been implicated in vascular repair in ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, primarily by differentiating into endothelial cells (ECs) or through paracrine effects.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemorrhage is the main cause of preventable death in trauma situations, leading to military and civilian advancements in medical practices, particularly through the use of tourniquets to manage extremity bleeding and save lives.
  • - While tourniquets have significantly decreased deaths from bleeding in military settings, noncompressible hemorrhage still poses a major risk, especially before patients receive definitive medical care.
  • - The study explores using a small, disposable pressure monitor during resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) to enhance blood pressure monitoring, facilitate better resuscitation practices, and reduce the need for blood products in extreme environments.

Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound derived from the widely used spice has shown anti-atherosclerotic effects in animal models and cultured vascular cells. Inflammation is a major contributor to atherosclerosis development and progression. We previously reported that the induction of the proinflammatory molecule TRAF3IP2 (TRAF3 Interacting Protein 2) or inhibition of the matrix metallopeptidase (MMP) regulator RECK (REversion Inducing Cysteine Rich Protein with Kazal Motifs) contributes to pro-oxidant, proinflammatory, pro-mitogenic and pro-migratory effects in response to external stimuli in vascular smooth muscle cells.
