Three-dimensional (3D) printed surgical models provide an excellent surgical training option to closely mimic real operations to teach medical students who currently rely largely on visual learning aided with simple suturing pads. There is an unmet need to create simple to complex surgical training programs suitable for medical students. A prospective cohort study was conducted on a group of 16 6th year students.

Background: Achalasia is characterized by failure of relaxation of the lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS) and abnormal peristalsis during swallowing. The study aimed to observe the effects of intervention in three sub-types of achalasia and compare the intervention outcomes among the three sub-types.
Methods: Forty-one patients underwent Eckardt scoring for severity of achalasia, followed by high-resolution manometry (HRM).

Surgeons in training have a limited opportunity to practice their skills in a realistic surgical environment. Surgical training models are expensive and are often single-use exercises involving consumable supplies. The goal of the work presented in this paper is to increase surgeon training time by developing a surgical training simulator that is portable, inexpensive, and offers a realistic surgical environment.
