Hazelnut is one of the most appreciated nuts being virtually found in a wide range of processed foods. The simple presence of trace amounts of hazelnut in foods can represent a potential risk for eliciting allergic reactions in sensitised individuals. The correct labelling of processed foods is mandatory to avoid adverse reactions. Therefore, adequate methodology evaluating the presence of offending foods is of great importance. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop a highly specific and sensitive sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection and quantification of hazelnut in complex food matrices. Using in-house produced antibodies, an ELISA system was developed capable to detect hazelnut down to 1 mg kg(-1) and quantify this nut down to 50 mg kg(-1) in chocolates spiked with known amounts of hazelnut. These results highlight and reinforce the value of ELISA as rapid and reliable tool for the detection of allergens in foods.

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is an infiltrative disease that results from the deposition of amyloid fibrils in the myocardium, resulting in restrictive cardiomyopathy. The amyloid fibrils are predominantly derived from two parent proteins, immunoglobulin light chain (AL) and transthyretin (ATTR), and ATTR is further classified into hereditary (ATTRv) and wild-type (ATTRwt) based on the presence or absence, respectively, of a mutation in the transthyretin gene. Once thought to be a rare entity, CA is increasingly recognized as a significant cause of heart failure due to improved clinical awareness and better diagnostic imaging.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Gynecologic Oncology), Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India. Electronic address:

Objective: To isolate and quantify cell-free DNA, analysis for p53 mutations, and correlation with tumor burden in women with epithelial ovarian cancer compared with benign and borderline epithelial ovarian tumors.

Methods: In this case-control study, plasma samples of eligible women collected 1 hour before surgery and based on final histopathology, women with epithelial ovarian cancer recruited as cases and borderline, and benign ovarian tumors as controls. Cell-free DNA extracted from plasma serum and quantified using Nanodrop Spectrophotometer.

Background: The noninvasive detection of subclinical graft injury including subclinical T cell-mediated rejection (subTCMR) is one of the unresolved challenges after liver transplantation. Recently, serum C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8) was proposed as a highly accurate marker of subTCMR in pediatric liver transplant recipients. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the quantification of this chemokine for predicting subTCMR in adult liver transplant recipients, as well as its capacity to classify patients who could benefit from immunosuppression reduction.

A one-step hydrothermal method was applied to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with superior fluorescence properties using chitosan as a carbon source. The as-prepared carbon dots were then grafted onto a sodium alginate-gelatin hydrogel film to form a fluorescent hydrogel film (FHGF), emitting at 450 nm under excitation of 350 nm light. In comparison to the CDs, the fluorescence intensity of this film was maintained over 90.

A novel multi-site enzymatic repairing amplification strategy is developed for high-sensitive terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase quantification through combining enzymatic repairing amplification and lesion base-involved terminal extension. This method may provide a sensitive and flexible tool for molecular diagnosis and drug discovery.
