Xerostomia (perceived oral dryness) is a common problem in older adults, often due to hyposalivation, which can cause difficulty in eating and swallowing, resulting in insufficient dietary fiber intake. Recent work shows salivary flow rate, particle size, and concentration are major factors for particle perception in beverages. Given that disliking drives non-consumption, here we explore how particle size, concentration, and salivary flow rate may affect liking in a fiber-fortified model beverage.

Introduction: The rough surface of dentures, coupled with xerostomia and immunosuppression, fosters microbial growth and colonization, with being a primary culprit. Tissue conditioners, used to reline ill-fitting dentures, can temporarily alleviate discomfort but are prone to microbial colonization. To address this, researchers have explored incorporating antifungal agents directly into tissue conditioners.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a fully-automated patient tailored beam-angle optimisation approach for intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT). For oropharynx cancer patients, the dosimetric impact of increasing the number of fields from 4 to 12 was systematically assessed.
Approach: A total-beam-space heuristic was developed to simultaneously select optimal patient specific candidate beam directions, according to a cost-function that penalises dose to OARs involved in clinically used NTCPs.

Background/purpose: Normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models can be used to guide radiation therapy (RT) decisions by estimating side-effect risks pretreatment to minimize (late) side-effects. Recently, a comprehensive individual toxicity risk (CITOR) profile of NTCP models addressing common side-effects in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients was developed. This study investigates the generalizability of these models in an international setting, with different treatment approaches and side-effect assessments, promoting their integration into more widespread clinical practice.
