In this study, we aimed to determine whether the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) after rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) are equal to those of primary THA, and to elucidate the characteristics of THA after RAO. The clinical and radiographic findings of THA after RAO (44 hips), with minimum 24 months of follow-up, were compared with a matched control group of 58 hips without prior RAO. We found that the outcomes in terms of functional scores and complication rates did not differ between THA after RAO and THA without previous pelvic osteotomy, indicating that the results of THA after RAO are equivalent to those of primary THA. Although THA after RAO requires technical considerations, similar clinical outcomes to primary THA can be expected.

Background: Early dislocation following total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common reason for revision. The purpose of this study was to determine if the acuity of the dislocation episode affects the risk of revision surgery.
Methods: A retrospective review of a national, all-payer administrative database comprised of claims from 2010 to 2020 was used to identify patients who had a prosthetic hip dislocation at various postoperative time intervals (0 to 7, 7 to 30, 30 to 60, and 60 to 90 days).

Purpose: To follow-up the non-operated hips of patients who underwent unilateral rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) for bilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) for a minimum of 20 years to clarify (1) the timing of onset of hip osteoarthritis (OA) in DDH, and (2) factors associated with the development of OA.
Methods: This study included 92 non-operated hips of patients who underwent unilateral RAO for bilateral DDH. We examined the timing of OA onset and total hip arthroplasty (THA) and the joint survival rate in the studied hips.

Background: Osteoporosis is a known, modifiable risk factor for lower extremity periprosthetic fractures. Unfortunately, a high percentage of patients at risk of osteoporosis who undergo THA or TKA do not receive routine screening and treatment for osteoporosis, but there is insufficient information determining the proportion of patients undergoing THA and TKA who should be screened and their implant-related complications.
Questions/purposes: (1) What proportion of patients in a large database who underwent THA or TKA met the criteria for osteoporosis screening? (2) What proportion of these patients received a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) study before arthroplasty? (3) What was the 5-year cumulative incidence of fragility fracture or periprosthetic fracture after arthroplasty of those at high risk compared with those at low risk of osteoporosis?
Methods: Between January 2010 and October 2021, 710,097 and 1,353,218 patients who underwent THA and TKA, respectively, were captured in the Mariner dataset of the PearlDiver database.
