With advancing age, significant changes occur in the female reproductive system, the most notable of which is the decline in oocyte quality, a key factor affecting female fertility. However, the mechanisms underlying oocyte aging remain poorly understood. In this study, we obtained oocytes from aged and young female mice and performed single-cell transcriptome sequencing, comparing our findings with existing proteomic analyses.

In the United States (US), neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) monitor and treat newborns for a variety of adverse health concerns including preterm status, respiratory distress and restricted growth. As such, NICU admission is an integrated measure of neonatal risk. We linked 2018 US national birth registry NICU admission data among singleton births with satellite and modelled air pollution levels for the month prior to birth to examine whether late-pregnancy exposure to ambient air pollutants is associated with adverse neonatal health outcomes.

Problem: COVID-19 during pregnancy is linked to increased maternal morbidity and a higher incidence of preterm births (PTBs), yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Cellular senescence, characterized by the irreversible cessation of cell division, is a critical process in placental function, and its dysregulation has been implicated in pregnancy complications like PTB. Senescence can be induced by various stressors, including oxidative stress, DNA damage, and viral infections.
