Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the correlation between computed tomography findings and data from the physical examination and the Friedman Staging System (FSS) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective evaluation by reviewing the medical records of 33 patients (19 male and 14 female patients) with a mean body mass index of 30.38 kg/m(2) and mean age of 49.35 years. Among these patients, 14 presented with severe OSA, 7 had moderate OSA, 7 had mild OSA, and 5 were healthy.
Results: The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the FSS: Group A comprised patients with FSS stage I or II, and group B comprised patients with FSS stage III. By use of the Fisher exact test, a positive relationship between the FSS stage and apnea-hypopnea index (P = .011) and between the FSS stage and body mass index (P = .012) was found. There was no correlation between age (P = .55) and gender (P = .53) with the FSS stage. The analysis of variance test comparing the upper airway volume between the 2 groups showed P = .018.
Conclusions: In this sample the FSS and upper airway volume showed an inverse correlation and were useful in analyzing the mechanisms of airway collapse in patients with OSA.

Purpose: This study assesses sleep quality amongst hemodialysis (HD) patients and identifies contributing factors, which include demographic and clinical factors and significant symptoms associated with HD (ie, fatigue and pruritus).
Patients And Methods: In this cross-sectional design, 116 participants were recruited from HD units of two hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Three measures were used to identify predictors of sleep quality among HD patients, including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and the 5-D itch scale.

Febrile seizures (FSs) are the most common pediatric neurological disorder, affecting approximately 5 % of children aged 6 months to 5 years. While most FSs are self-limiting and benign, about 20-30 % present as complex FSs (CFSs), which pose a risk of acute brain injury and the development of temporal lobe epilepsy. Various factors, including age, geographical distribution, and type of infection influence the occurrence of FS.

Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) during pregnancy can increase the prevalence of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCSs) in developing rats. However, it is unclear whether phenobarbital (PB) can suppress these PAE-related seizures. To explore this knowledge gap, we investigated the effects of acute PB treatment on NMDA-induced seizures in postpartum rats, prenatally exposed to alcohol on gestational day 18 (GD18), at two developmental stages: day 7 (P7), the equivalent of pre-term neonates, and day 15 (P15), the equivalent of full-term neonates.

Objective: To assess the safety of fertility-sparing treatments for early-stage ovarian cancer in women younger than 40 years old.
Methods: We performed a retrospective multicenter study including women aged 18-40 years diagnosed with early-stage (FIGO I-II) ovarian cancer in 55 Spanish hospitals, from January 2010 to December 2019. Benign and borderline tumors were excluded, as well as advanced stages (FIGO III-IV).

Introduction: The increasing incidence and high mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) make it a major public health concern in developing countries.
Objective: The aim of this work was to study the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of colorectal cancers from 2013 to 2023 in Cotonou.
Methods: This was a descriptive, analytical study with retrospective data collection, covering CRC patients managed in specialized centers in Cotonou (university clinics of visceral surgery, internal medicine and hepatogastroenterology at CNHU-HKM and the Cotonou Cancer Center).
