Critical care ultrasonography is a bedside technique performed by the frontline clinician at the point of care. Point-of-care ultrasonography is conceptually related to physical examination. The intensivist uses visual assessment, auscultation, and palpation on an ongoing basis to monitor the patient. Ultrasonography adds to traditional physical examination by allowing the intensivist to visualize the anatomy and function of the body in real time. Initial, repeated, and goal-directed ultrasonography is an extension of the physical examination that allows the intensivist to establish a diagnosis and monitor the condition of the patient on a regular basis.

Purpose Of Review: To review currently existing knowledge on a new type of antihypertensive treatment, small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting hepatic angiotensinogen.
Recent Findings: Targeting angiotensinogen synthesis in the liver with siRNA allows reaching a suppression of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activity for up to 6 months after 1 injection. This might revolutionize antihypertensive treatment, as it could overcome non-adherence, the major reason for inadequate blood pressure control.

Background: The standard approach for addressing intra-articular calcaneal fractures involves open reduction with plate and screw fixation, with ongoing discourse regarding the application of grafts to address bone gaps. The aim of this study is the temporal comparison of the radiological and functional outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for intra-articular calcaneal fractures, with a specific focus on the use of bone grafts.
Methods: Thirty patients, comprising 13 with iliac grafts and 17 without, were enrolled in the study.

Purpose Of Review: Bone marrow adipose tissue is a distinctive fat depot located within the skeleton, with the potential to influence both local and systemic metabolic processes. Although significant strides have been made in understanding bone marrow adipose tissue over the past decade, many questions remain regarding their precise lineage and functional roles.
Recent Findings: Recent studies have highlighted bone marrow adipose tissue's involvement in continuous cross-talk with other organs and systems, exerting both endocrine and paracrine functions that play a crucial role in metabolic homeostasis, skeletal remodeling, hematopoiesis, and the progression of bone metastases.
Arterial compliance (AC) is an important cardiovascular parameter characterizing mechanical properties of arteries. AC is significantly influenced by arterial wall structure and vasomotion, and it markedly influences cardiac load. A new method, based on a two-element Windkessel model, has been recently proposed for estimating AC as the ratio of the time constant T of the diastolic blood pressure decay and peripheral vascular resistance derived from clinically available stroke volume measurements and selected peripheral blood pressure parameters which are less prone to peripheral distortions.

Existing systems for predicting MT need in trauma patients have not been systematically evaluated for their relevance to the geriatric population. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive accuracy of initial vital signs and the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) in geriatric trauma patients for predicting MT.
