A new insight on simultaneous water purification and greenhouse gas reduction by constructing sulfur-siderite driven autotrophic denitrification pathways in constructed wetlands.

Water Res

Electronic address:

Sulfur-siderite driven autotrophic denitrification (SSAD) has received increasing attention for nutrient removal in constructed wetlands (CWs). Nevertheless, its effectiveness in simultaneous water purification and greenhouse gases (GHGs) reduction remains obscure. In this study, three vertical flow constructed wetlands (VFCWs), filled with quartz sand (CCW), sulfur (S-CW), and sulfur-siderite mixed substrates (SS-CW), were constructed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of SSAD on water purification enhancement and GHGs reduction.

Hypothesis: The adsorption isotherm of alkanols at the haematite|hydrocarbon interface should reflect both chemisorption (chemically bonded fraction) and physisorption (hydrogen bonded fraction).

Experiments And Model: Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been used for characterization of FeO|hydrocarbon interfaces with absorbed alcohol. A range of FeO-terminated surfaces, alkanols, hydrocarbons and temperatures have been investigated.

In this study, we used desert soil from Gansu, China, as a sample to propose a method for designing hyperspectral stealth coatings against desert soil backgrounds within the spectral range of 400-2500 nm, and the corresponding coating was prepared. Firstly, the correlation between the composition and typical spectral detected characteristics of the desert soil was systematically analyzed. It was found that the color and the spectrum of the desert soil in the range of 400-1000 nm were influenced by different types of iron oxides.

In the case of desulfurization and spheroization of cast iron using the in-mold method, in which the treated cast iron is poured into the reaction chamber and placed in the casting mold, the mineral raw material of the mold should support these processes. Therefore, it is important to know the physicochemical properties of the materials selected for the production of casting molds and to learn about the phenomena occurring during their pouring. The research presented in this paper was carried out on quartz, magnesite, chromite, and olivine sands.

Electrochemical and shake flask tests were used to examine the corrosion characteristics of typical gangue minerals in biometallurgical systems and their impact on microbial communities. The results show that the solubility order of the three gangue minerals is feldspar, mica, and quartz in descending order. Their corrosion processes are mainly controlled by cathodic electron-donating processes.
