Mastopexy and reduction mammoplasty share techniques of pedicle formation and skin excision patterns, with the main difference being the amount of breast tissue resected. Various types of excision patterns and orientation of pedicles were developed throughout the years, each with flares of popularity at different times. This article reviews the multiple techniques of pedicle orientation and skin excision patterns separately and gives the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC) is a versatile protein crucial for sensing DNA damage in the global genome nucleotide excision repair (GG-NER) pathway. This pathway is vital for mammalian cells, acting as their essential approach for repairing DNA lesions stemming from interactions with environmental factors, such as exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Loss-of-function mutations in the XPC gene confer a photosensitive phenotype in XP-C patients, resulting in the accumulation of unrepaired UV-induced DNA damage.

Deep or aggressive angiomyxoma is an uncommon neoplasm of the pelvis. Although deep angiomyxoma is a benign tumor, its tendency to infiltrate soft tissues and reach a large size (typically > 10 cm) indicates aggressive biological behavior. It is usually present in female patients, but there have been recent reports of male-aggressive angiomyxoma.

Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is expressed in the oropharyngeal epithelium, including the frontonasal ectodermal zone (FEZ), which is defined as the boundary between Shh and Fgf8 expression domains in the frontonasal epithelium. To investigate the role of SHH signaling from the oropharyngeal epithelium, we generated mice in which Shh expression is specifically deleted in the oropharyngeal epithelium (Isl1-Cre; Shh). In the mutant mouse, Shh expression was excised in the oropharyngeal epithelium as well as FEZ and ventral forebrain, consistent with the expression pattern of Isl1.
