Vascular complications by compromising the blood flow to the allograft can have significant and sometimes life-threatening consequences after pediatric liver transplantation. High level of suspicion and aggressive utilization of diagnostic modalities can lead to early diagnosis and salvage of the allograft. Background: External ventricular drains (EVDs) provide an invaluable diagnostic method for accessing cerebrospinal fluid and therapeutically treating elevated intracranial pressure. Although complications including hemorrhage and infection have been well documented, the formation of iatrogenic pseudoaneurysms following EVD placement has rarely been reported. The authors present a case of this exceedingly rare complication of iatrogenic pseudoaneurysm formation following EVD placement.

Polyethylene Glycol microspheres for uterine artery embolization for the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids.

Radiol Med

January 2025

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, Corso Bramante 88, 10126, Turin, Italy.

Background: Uterine fibroids are prevalent benign pelvic tumors, often causing debilitating symptoms that impair quality of life. Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a consolidated minimally invasive treatment option. The purpose of this study is to report our experience with polyethylene glycol microspheres (HydroPearl) in UFE for symptomatic patients.

January 2025

Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Bereketzade Camii Sk. No:2 Beyoğlu, 34421, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal injections of 4 mg (high dose) of aflibercept in treatment-naive patients with neovascular AMD(nAMD) with treat and extend(TREX) dosing regimens, and to determine the frequency of injections.

Methods: In this interventional, retrospective study a total of 15 eyes of 14 patients (eight female and 9 male) with nAMD were included. All patients were examined and OCT imaging was performed at the time of initial presentation, on the day of each injection and at subsequent follow-up visits.

We describe a patient with severe Arnold Chiari Malformation and syringomyelia who underwent gynecological laparoscopy in an emergency context; no brain imaging was available. We here report the successful use of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) velocity measurements as surrogate monitoring for cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure, respectively. MCA velocity was low when assessed after peritoneal insufflation and ONSD increased to 6.

Predictive Factors of a Dominant Superficial Venous Drainage System in DIEP Flap Surgery With Preoperative Computed Tomography Angiography.

Microsurgery

January 2025

Service de Chirurgie Plastique, Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP), Université Paris Descartes, Paris, France.

Background: Venous congestion due to superficial venous system dominance (SVD) in deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap surgery occurs in approximately 2% of cases, with attendant sequelae and increased cost to healthcare systems. This study aimed to describe the predictive factors for SVD in DIEP flap breast reconstruction based on preoperative computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings.

Methods: All women who required takebacks for additional venous anastomosis to the cephalic vein because of SVD after DIEP flap breast reconstruction between 2015 and 2022 were included.
