Background: Reporting on and monitoring epidemics is a public health priority. Several initiatives and platforms provide epidemiological data, such as the EM-DAT International Disaster Database, which has 1525 epidemics and their impact reported since 1900, including 892 epidemics between 2000 and 2023. However, EM-DAT has inconsistent coverage and deficiencies regarding the systematic monitoring of epidemics data due to the lack of a standardized methodology to define what will be included under an epidemic disaster.

Background: Obesity could compromise people's health and elevate the risk of numerous severe chronic conditions and premature mortality. Young adults are at high risk of adopting unhealthy lifestyles related to overweight and obesity, as they are at a phase marked by several significant life milestones that have been linked to weight gain. They gain weight rapidly and excess adiposity mostly accrues, compared with middle-aged and older adults when weight stabilizes or even decreases.

Background: "SuperAgers" (SA) are older adults who perform significantly better than their peers and comparable to young adults on objective memory measures. Longitudinal studies show that many do not maintain their SA status over time. Despite substantial advances in the acute management of stroke, it remains a leading cause of adult disability and mortality worldwide. Currently, the reperfusion modalities thrombolysis and thrombectomy benefit only a fraction of patients in the hyperacute phase of ischemic stroke. Thus, with the exception of vagal nerve stimulation combined with intensive physical therapy, there are no approved neuroprotective/neurorestorative therapies for stroke survivors.
