Four Vietnamese infants who survived infection with Salmonella meningitis are reported. A female infant who experienced relapse recovered without complications and another had neurological sequellae. The remaining 2 infants survived without complications. The initial treatment was chloramphenicol and ceftriaxone, whereas a change of antibiotics to imipenem and fluoroquinolone was required for 2 infants. Fluoroquinolone may be a treatment option in patients with Salmonella meningitis who experience complications even though the drug is contraindicated for the pediatric age group.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is one of the commonest severe inherited disorders in the world. Infection accounts for a significant amount of the morbidity and mortality, particularly in sub- Saharan Africa, but is relatively poorly studied and characterized. Patients with SCD have significant immunodeficiency and are more likely to suffer severe and life-threatening complications of infection, and additionally infections can trigger complications of SCD itself.

Purpose: Developing countries, invasive infections can cause considerable morbidity and mortality. There is a relative lack of data on coinfection with in HIV-infected patients in Hangzhou, China.
Patients And Methods: In this study, we manually collected case data of patients aged >18 years with HIV combined with invasive infections admitted to Xixi Hospital in Hangzhou from January 2012 to August 2023 by logging into the Hospital Information System, and identified 26 strains of invasive using a fully automated microbiological identification system and mass spectrometer.

Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) disease is an under-recognized high-burden disease causing major health and socioeconomic issues in sub-Saharan Africa (sSA), predominantly among immune-naïve infants and young children, including those with recognized comorbidities such as HIV infection. iNTS disease is primarily caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium sequence type (ST) 313 and 'African-restricted clades' of Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 that have emerged across the African continent as a series of epidemics associated with acquisition of new antimicrobial resistance. Due to genotypes with a high prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and scarcity of therapeutic options, these NTS serovars are designated by the World Health Organization as a priority pathogen for research and development of interventions, including vaccines, to address and reduce NTS associated bacteremia and meningitis in sSA.
