The preparation and performance of a suitable chimeric biosensor based on antibodies (Abs) immobilized on lipase-coated magnetic particles by means of a standing orienting strategy are presented. This novel system is based on hydrophobic magnetic particles coated with modified lipase molecules able to orient and further immobilize different Abs in a covalent way without any previous site-selective chemical modification of biomacromolecules. Different key parameters attending the process were studied and optimized. The optimal preparation was performed using a controlled loading (1 nmol Ab g(-1) chimeric support) at pH 9 and a short reaction time to recover a biological activity of about 80%. AFM microscopy was used to study and confirm the Abs-oriented immobilization on lipase-coated magnetic particles and the final achievement of a highly active and recyclable chimeric immune sensor. This direct technique was demonstrated to be a powerful alternative to the indirect immunoactivity assay methods for the study of biomacromolecule-oriented immobilizations.

Colloids can be used either as model systems for directed assembly or as the necessary building blocks for making functional materials. Previous work primarily focused on assembling colloids under a single external field, where controlling particle-particle interactions is limited. This work presents results under a combination of electric and magnetic fields.

Objectives: An analytical protocol based on isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS), which includes a peptide-based calibration strategy, was developed and validated for the determination of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) levels in clinical samples. Additionally, the developed method was compared with a protein-based calibration strategy, using cTnI serving as a model for low-abundant proteins. The aim is to evaluate new approaches for protein quantification in complex matrices, supporting the metrology community in implementing new methods and developing fit-for-purpose SI- traceable peptide or protein primary calibrators.

This article describes the effect of non-stabilized magnetic particles FeO (nanoparticles aggregates) addition to the aqueous phase of the polarized liquid-liquid interface (LLI) on the interfacial ion transfer processes. LLI was formed between 1,2-dichloroethane and water solutions (1,2 DCE)|water. The synthesis of FeO magnetic particles (MPs) was achieved by the co-precipitation method, after which their appearance, size of aggregates, and zeta potential were assessed.

Digital light processing (DLP) is rapidly growing in popularity as an additive manufacturing method for the fabrication of composite structures, and is an effective way to prepare high-resolution filled parts, such as ceramic green parts or composite magnets. Yet, higher solid loadings of resins and the resulting dramatic increases in viscosity limit DLP printing for applications that depend upon maximization of filler content. In this work, we investigate the capacity of a bimodal particle size distribution to enable the printing of a photosensitive resin containing up to 70 vol% of fillers.

Multilevel thresholding image segmentation is one of the widely used image segmentation methods, and it is also an important means of medical image preprocessing. Replacing the original costly exhaustive search approach, swarm intelligent optimization algorithms are recently used to determine the optimal thresholds for medical image, and medical images tend to have higher bit depth. Aiming at the drawbacks of premature convergence of existing optimization algorithms for high-bit depth image segmentation, this paper presents a pyramid particle swarm optimization based on complementary inertia weights (CIWP-PSO), and the Kapur entropy is employed as the optimization objective.
