Functional polymer tubing with an OD of 1/16 or 1/8 in. was fabricated by a simple polymer coextrusion process. The tubing was made of an outer impervious polypropylene layer and an inner layer, consisting of a blend of a functional polymer, polyethylene-co-methacrylic acid, and a sacrificial polymer, polystyrene. After a simple solvent leaching step using common organic solvents, the polystyrene was removed, leaving behind a porous inner layer that contains functional carboxylic acid groups, which could then be used for the immobilization of target molecules. Solution-phase reactions using amines or isocyanates have proven successful for the immobilization of a series of small molecules and polymers. This flexible multilayered functional tubing can be easily cut to the desired length and connected via standard microfluidic fittings.

Peptoids (N-substituted glycines) are a class of sequence-defined synthetic peptidomimetic polymers with applications including drug delivery, catalysis, and biomimicry. Classical molecular simulations have been used to predict and understand the conformational dynamics of single chains and their self-assembly into morphologies including sheets, tubes, spheres, and fibrils. The CGenFF-NTOID model based on the CHARMM General Force Field has demonstrated success in accurate all-atom molecular modeling of peptoid structure and thermodynamics.

Objective: To develop and validate a device that measures the pressure exerted by forceps on the fetal head for clinical use.
Background: The lack of clinical tools to quantify forceps pressure on the fetal head may impact maternal and neonatal outcomes. Existing studies have not measured the direct contact pressure between forceps blades and the fetal head, highlighting the need for innovation.

Due to increasing mobility and energy conservation needs, improving bus and coach safety without adding weight is essential. Many crashes with fatal outcomes for vehicle occupants are associated with the rollover of the vehicle, revealing the structural weakness of the steel pillars between windows, which must resist high levels of bending during rollovers. This study aims to reinforce these pillars with expired carbon fiber prepreg from the aircraft industry, improving safety and reducing environmental waste.

A small amount of silver was obliquely deposited onto a polymer subwavelength grating to form a metasurface that comprised silver split-tubes. An ultra-thin silver film with a monitor-controlled thickness of 20 nm at the corner of each ridge of the grating provided the most sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measurements. An excitation laser beam that was incident from the substrate provided similar or better SERS enhancement than did the general configuration with the laser beam incident directly on the surface of the nanostructure.

Nowadays, due to the structural advantages gained by combining three different materials' properties, columns made of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP)-confined concrete with inner steel tube have received researchers' interest. This article presents the nonlinear finite element analysis and multiple machine learning (ML) model-based study on the behavior of round corner rectangular CFRP-confined concrete short columns reinforced by the inner high-strength elliptical steel tube under the axial load. The reliability of the proposed nonlinear finite element model was verified against the existing experimental investigations.
