We explore the sensitivity of the Higgs decay to four leptons, the so-called golden channel, to higher dimensional loop-induced couplings of the Higgs boson to ZZ, Zγ, and γγ pairs, allowing for general CP mixtures. The larger standard model tree level coupling hZ(μ)Z(μ) is the dominant "background" for the loop-induced couplings. However, this large background interferes with the smaller loop-induced couplings, enhancing the sensitivity. We perform a maximum likelihood analysis based on analytic expressions of the fully differential decay width for h→4ℓ (4ℓ≡2e2μ,4e,4μ), including all interference effects. We find that the spectral shapes induced by Higgs couplings to photons are particularly different than the hZ(μ)Z(μ) background leading to enhanced sensitivity to these couplings. We show that even if the h→γγ and h→4ℓ rates agree with that predicted by the standard model, the golden channel has the potential to probe both the CP nature as well as the overall sign of the Higgs coupling to photons well before the end of a high-luminosity LHC.

Collisions of the transcription and replication machineries on the same DNA strand can pose a significant threat to genomic stability. These collisions occur in part due to the formation of RNA-DNA hybrids termed R-loops, in which a newly transcribed RNA molecule hybridizes with the DNA template strand. This study investigated the role of RAD52, a known DNA repair factor, in preventing collisions by directing R-loop formation and resolution.

Universal theory of brain waves: from linear loops to nonlinear synchronized spiking and collective brain rhythms.

Phys Rev Res

An inhomogeneous anisotropic physical model of the brain cortex is presented that predicts the emergence of non-evanescent (weakly damped) wave-like modes propagating in the thin cortex layers transverse to both the mean neural fiber direction and to the cortex spatial gradient. Although the amplitude of these modes stays below the typically observed axon spiking potential, the lifetime of these modes may significantly exceed the spiking potential inverse decay constant. Full brain numerical simulations based on parameters extracted from diffusion and structural MRI confirm the existence and extended duration of these wave modes.

CP Violation in Higgs-Gauge Interactions: From Tabletop Experiments to the LHC.

Phys Rev Lett

Theoretical Division, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Los Alamos, New Mexico 87545, USA.

We investigate the interplay between the high- and low-energy phenomenology of CP-violating interactions of the Higgs boson with gauge bosons. For this purpose, we use an effective field theory approach and consider all dimension-six operators arising in so-called universal theories. We compute their loop-induced contributions to electric dipole moments and the CP asymmetry in B→X_{s}γ and compare the resulting current and prospective constraints to the projected sensitivity of the LHC.

Lepton Flavor Violation Induced by a Neutral Scalar at Future Lepton Colliders.

Phys Rev Lett

Department of Physics and McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri 63130, USA.

Many new physics scenarios beyond standard model often necessitate the existence of a (light) neutral scalar H, which might couple to the charged leptons in a flavor violating way, while evading all existing constraints. We show that such scalars could be effectively produced at future lepton colliders, either on shell or off shell depending on their mass, and induce lepton flavor violating (LFV) signals, i.e.

Pseudoscalar Decaying Only via Loops as an Explanation for the 750 GeV Diphoton Excess.

Phys Rev Lett

Institute of Theoretical Physics & State Key Laboratory of Nuclear Physics and Technology, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

We construct a weakly coupled renormalizable model to explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess. The 750 GeV resonance [denoted as X(750)] is interpreted as a pseudoscalar coming from a complex singlet. The model also naturally provides a dark matter candidate.
