Published: January 2015

A systematic study on the anion-binding properties of acyclic halogen- and hydrogen-bonding bis-triazolium carbazole receptors is described. The halide-binding potency of halogen-bonding bis-iodotriazolium carbazole receptors was found to be far superior to their hydrogen-bonding bis-triazolium-based analogues. This led to the synthesis of a mixed halogen- and hydrogen-bonding rotaxane host containing a bis-iodotriazolium carbazole axle component. The rotaxane's anion recognition properties, determined by (1)H NMR titration experiments in a competitive aqueous solvent mixture, demonstrated the preorganised halogen-bonding interlocked host cavity to be halide-selective, with a strong binding affinity for bromide.

2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is one of the popular herbicides that is widely used in agriculture and can be found in food and water. A rapid and sensitive fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) was proposed for the detection of 2,4-D in juice and water. New tracers, 2,4-D-buthylenediamin fluoresceinthiocarbamyl (2,4-D-BDF) and 2,4-D-glycine aminofluorescein (2,4-D-GAF), were obtained and characterized.

Sulfaquinoxaline (SQX) is widely utilized in aquaculture and animal husbandry due to its broad antimicrobial spectrum and low cost. However, it is difficult to degrade, and there are relevant residues in the aquatic environment, which could be harmful to both the ecological environment and human health. As a new recognition molecule, the aptamer can be recognized with SQX with high affinity and specificity, and the aptamer is no longer adsorbed to AuNPs after binding to SQX, which weakens the catalytic effect of AuNPs.

SPR Biosensor Based on Bilayer MoS for SARS-CoV-2 Sensing.

Biosensors (Basel)

January 2025

INFN-Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Via E. Fermi 54, 00044 Frascati, Italy.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for rapid, sensitive, and reliable diagnostic tools for detecting SARS-CoV-2. In this study, we developed and optimized a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor incorporating advanced materials to enhance its sensitivity and specificity. Key parameters, including the thickness of the silver layer, silicon nitride dielectric layer, molybdenum disulfide (MoS) layers, and ssDNA recognition layer, were systematically optimized to achieve the best balance between sensitivity, resolution, and attenuation.

Flexible Tail of Antimicrobial Peptide PGLa Facilitates Water Pore Formation in Membranes.

PGLa, an antimicrobial peptide (AMP), primarily exerts its antibacterial effects by disrupting bacterial cell membrane integrity. Previous theoretical studies mainly focused on the binding mechanism of PGLa with membranes, while the mechanism of water pore formation induced by PGLa peptides, especially the role of structural flexibility in the process, remains unclear. In this study, using all-atom simulations, we investigated the entire process of membrane deformation caused by the interaction of PGLa with an anionic cell membrane composed of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and dimyristoylphosphatidylglycerol (DMPG).

A novel isopthalamide based receptor HL2 featuring two p-benzoic acid units has been synthesised and its anion binding properties analysed by H-NMR spectroscopy in DMSO-d/0.5 % HO. As expected, in the presence of tetrabutylammonium (TBA) fluoride the deprotonation of the carboxylic acid moieties was observed.
