Background: Infectious diseases, particularly parasitic infections such as toxoplasmosis, contribute significantly to the morbidity and mortality of hemodialysis patients. Toxoplasma gondii infection poses serious risks, especially to immunocompromised individuals. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of latent toxoplasmosis in dialysis patients in Markazi Province, Iran.

Crosstalk between non-coding RNAs and programmed cell death in colorectal cancer: implications for targeted therapy.

Epigenetics Chromatin

January 2025

Research Center for Biochemistry and Nutrition in Metabolic Diseases, Institute for Basic Sciences, Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Kashan, Iran.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most common causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Its progression is influenced by complex interactions involving genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs), have been identified as key regulators of gene expression, affecting diverse biological processes, notably programmed cell death (PCD).

Background: Perinatal growth and nutrition have been shown to be determinants in the programming of different tissues, such as adipose tissue, predisposing individuals to metabolic alterations later in life. Previous studies have documented an increased risk of metabolic disturbances and low-grade inflammation in prepubertal children with a history of extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR). The aim of this study was to evaluate possible alterations resulting from impaired growth during early childhood and their impact on young adult health.

Insights of cellular and molecular changes in sugarcane response to oxidative signaling.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Bioinformatics Multidisciplinary Environment, IMD, Universidade Federal Do Rio Grande Do Norte, Natal, Brazil.

Significant changes in the proteome highlight essential metabolic adaptations for development and oxidative signaling induced by the treatment of young sugarcane plants with hydrogen peroxide. These adaptations suggest that hydrogen peroxide acts not only as a stressor but primarily as a signaling molecule, triggering specific metabolic pathways that regulate growth and plant resilience. Sugarcane is a crucial crop for sugar and ethanol production, often influenced by environmental signals.
