The European Nucleotide Archive (ENA; http://www.ebi.ac.uk/ena) is Europe's primary resource for nucleotide sequence information. With the growing volume and diversity of public sequencing data comes the need for increased sophistication in data organisation, presentation and search services so as to maximise its discoverability and usability. In response to this, ENA has been introducing and improving checklists for use during submission and expanding its search facilities to provide targeted search results. Here, we give a brief update on ENA content and some major developments undertaken in data submission services during 2014. We then describe in more detail the services we offer for data discovery and retrieval.

Network analysis of differentially expressed genes involved in oral submucous fibrosis and oral squamous cell carcinoma: a comparative approach.

Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol

December 2024

Department of Bioengineering and Biotechnology, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. Electronic address:

Objective: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is categorized as an oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) with an increased risk of occurrence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). In this study, we aimed to identify the hub genes associated with OSMF and OSCC.

Study Design: Using RStudio, a set of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in (A) OSMF, (B) OSCC, and (C) comparative OSMF-OSCC category, obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO).

Identifying Biomarkers for Atherosclerosis via Gene Expression and Biological Networking.

Curr Cardiol Rev

January 2025

School of Paramedics and Allied Health Sciences, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.

Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease caused by the accumulation of lipids, inflammatory cells, and fibrous elements in arterial walls, leading to plaque formation and cardiovascular conditions like coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. Factors like hyperlipidemia, hypertension, smoking, and diabetes contribute to its development. Diagnosis relies on imaging and biomarkers, while management includes lifestyle modifications, pharmacotherapy, and surgical interventions.

Background: Gastric cancer is a major global cause of cancer-related deaths, necessitating investigation into Matrix Metalloproteinases' (MMPs) diagnostic and prognostic value. Our study aimed to analyze their significance in gastric cancer.

Methods: We evaluated MMP family genes' mRNA and protein expression using the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UALCAN) and Human Protein Atlas (HPA) databases.

The root is an important organ by which plants directly sense variation in soil moisture. The discovery of drought stress-responsive genes in roots is very important for the improvement of drought tolerance in wheat varieties via molecular approaches. In this study, transcriptome sequencing was conducted on the roots of drought-tolerant wheat cultivar YH1818 seedlings at 0, 2, and 7 days after treatment (DAT).
