Solitary intraosseous neurofibroma: Report of a unique case.

Published: October 2014

Neural tumors located centrally in jaw bones are relatively rare compared with soft tissue neurofibromas. Less than 50 cases have been reported in the literature with a predilection for mandible. This article aims to elucidate a unique case of intraosseous neurofibroma of mandible in a 62-year-old edentulous female patient associated with facial asymmetry due to the swelling extending from the right body of mandible to left body of mandible. The uniqueness of this case is related to the age and extensiveness of this lesion. A review of clinical, radiographic, histological, and immunohistochemical features, and the surgical management pertaining to this case are discussed along with a review of the literature.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children, presenting with heterogeneous clinical and molecular subtypes. While gene fusions are predominantly associated with alveolar RMS, spindle cell RMS, especially congenital and intraosseous variants, are also linked to specific gene fusions. Furthermore, recently, FGFR1 kinase-driven RMSs were published.

A calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour (CEOT) is a rare benign odontogenic tumour of epithelial origin accounting for approximately 1% of all odontogenic tumours. The intraosseous form occurs more commonly in the posterior mandible whereas the extraosseous form is common in the anterior maxilla. CEOT is often asymptomatic and presents with a painless swelling of the mandible.

Materials And Methods: Clinical data from the pedodontics department and histopathological records from the oral pathology department were analyzed from the year 2010 to 2022 and grouped into two major categories: group I, abnormalities of teeth, and group II, intraosseous and mucosal/soft tissue lesions. Proposal of staging system and treatment guideline for diagnostically challenging primary intra-osseous carcinoma: A retrospective single-center case series and literature review.

J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Seoul National University, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Seoul, 03080, South Korea; Department of One-Stop Specialty Center, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Seoul, South Korea. Electronic address:

The objective of this retrospective study is to examine the clinical, imaging and pathologic features of 10 patients diagnosed with 'primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC)' at a single institution and to identify factors affecting the prognosis of PIOC patients. By proposing a new staging system based on tumor size, cortical bone deformation, neck metastasis and histologic grade, the study aims to address the lack of a distinct staging system, which has led to the mixed use of oral squamous cell carcinoma classification. Furthermore, the study intends to propose a treatment guideline based on the newly proposed staging system.
