Bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation associated with renal cell carcinoma.

Retin Cases Brief Rep

Fundación Oftalmológica Los Andes, Santiago, Chile.

Published: January 2015

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation associated with an asymptomatic renal cell carcinoma.

Design: Clinical case report.

Methods: A 70-year-old man presented with a 7-month history of bilateral visual loss. Ophthalmoscopic examination, fluorescein angiography, ocular coherence tomography, and a search for underlying systemic malignancy were performed.

Results: Examination revealed multiple melanocytic uveal proliferations in both eyes. Fluorescein angiography revealed a pattern of multiple areas of early hyperfluorescence, and ocular coherence tomography showed serous detachment of the central retina. Abdominal computerized tomography scans showed a large tumor in the left kidney and nodular involvement in the right kidney. Pathologic examination revealed a clear cell carcinoma of the kidney.

Conclusion: A literature review revealed a total of 40 cases of bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation. To our knowledge, this is the first case to be associated with renal cell carcinoma.

: This study investigates the prevalence of calcification in mediastinal lymph nodes among sarcoidosis patients and the influencing factors. Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic inflammatory disease characterized by non-caseating epithelioid granulomas. Bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy (LAP) is the most common radiographic finding, with studies showing a correlation between the frequency of lymph node calcification and disease duration, with a frequency of 3% relating to a duration of 5 years and a frequency of 20% relating to one of 10 years.

Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the structural and functional connectivity of the subregions of the amygdala in children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) only or comorbid with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

Methods: A total of 354 children with ADHD-only, 161 children with ADHD and ODD (ADHD + ODD), and 100 healthy controls were enrolled. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) were filled out by caregivers.

The patients with Arthrogryposis-Renal dysfunction-Cholestasis (ARC) syndrome have genetic susceptibility to the opportunistic infections due to the involvement of VPS33B (vacuolar protein sorting 33 homolog B) in phagolysosome fusion in macrophages. Detailed pathologic studies in ARC patients are missing in literature due to the lack of autopsy. We described the first autopsy case of ARC syndrome in a 2-month-old male infant.

Objective: To explore the potential of Intravoxel Incoherent Motion Diffusion (IVIM) and Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) in predicting the short-term effectiveness of post-revascularization for severe atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis.

Material And Methods: A retrospective analysis of 88 cases from October 2018 to February 2023 was conducted. Patients were divided into Responder and Non-Responder groups based on renal function outcomes at their last follow-up.

Background: Subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is a common subtype of vascular dementia. Currently, the bilateral common carotid artery stenosis (BCAS) mouse model is the most suitable SIVD rodent model. In this study, we investigated the functional and structural impairments in the hippocampus 1 month after BCAS.
