Unlabelled: Even though the situation in the field of research and development of new antimicrobial agents is not ideal, the years of stagnation, especially among anti-gramnegative agents, seem to be over. During the years 2011-2012 we have witnessed a movement towards a development of some new antibiotic agents not only with anti-gramposi-tive activity but with anti-gramnegative too, as well as new antituberculotics and antifungals. Here we present some of these new antiinfectives, presented in conferences during the last year, of which many are being shifted to the level of clinical trials of phase II-III, while others are in stage of preclinical studies.

Certain coral individuals exhibit enhanced resistance to thermal bleaching, yet the specific microbial assemblages and their roles in these phenotypes remain unclear. We compared the microbial communities of thermal bleaching-resistant (TBR) and thermal bleaching-sensitive (TBS) corals using metabarcoding and metagenomics. Our multidomain approach revealed stable distinct microbial compositions between thermal phenotypes.

Background: Oral microbiome homeostasis is important for children's health, and microbial community is affected by anesthetics. The application of anesthetics in children's oral therapy has become a relatively mature method. This study aims to investigate the effect of different anesthesia techniques on children's oral microbiota.

Background: Our patient and public involvement activities were part of a project aiming to develop a master protocol and National Institute for Health and Care research application for the PROTECT trial aiming to assess the effectiveness, implementation, and efficiency of antimicrobial stewardship interventions, to safely reduce unnecessary antibiotic usage by excluding severe bacterial infection in acutely unwell patients.

Methods: Three public involvement sessions were held with representation from young people and parents, people from diverse backgrounds and people with experience of presenting to the emergency department with undifferentiated illness. The teleconference meetings lasted between 60-90 minutes, were recorded, notes were subsequently taken, and findings summarised.

Osteomyelitis is commonly caused by pathogens like , but rare organisms such as , typically associated with superficial skin infections, can also be implicated. Recognizing these atypical pathogens presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, especially in the presence of orthopedic hardware. We conducted a literature review yielding 25 studies and encompassing 797 patient cases, which highlights the emerging role of species in osteomyelitis, particularly following trauma or surgical interventions.

Background: We investigated hospitalized carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) and extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) cases with and without COVID-19, as identified through Emerging Infections Program surveillance in 10 sites from 2020 to 2022.

Methods: We defined a CRE case as the first isolation of , complex, , , , or resistant to any carbapenem. We defined an ESBL-E case as the first isolation of , , or resistant to any third-generation cephalosporin and nonresistant to all carbapenems tested.
