Pressure measurement is often the limiting factor in the accuracy of quantitative ion-molecule experiments. We present a new method for pressure measurement based on analysis of pressure-limited Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) linewidths for well-characterized collisions of Ar(+) with Ar. The kinetic energy dependence of Ar(+)/Ar collision cross sections is well-described using a single-parameter fitting procedure, which results in pressure measurements in good agreement with those from a cold cathode tube and from measurement of total ion signal following electron impact ionization. The new method avoids problems inherent in ionization-based methods, such as those arising from differences in ionization potential or perturbations to the pressure that occur during electron ionization of the gas to be measured, and should be applicable in the trapping cells of FTICR and Orbitrap mass spectrometers.

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) achieves its therapeutic purpose mainly through the biological effects produced by the interaction of shock waves with tissues, and the accurate measurement and calculation of the mechanical parameters of shock waves in tissues are of great significance in formulating the therapeutic strategy and evaluating the therapeutic effect. This study utilizes the approach of implanting flexible polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) vibration sensors inside the tissue-mimicking phantom of various thicknesses to capture waveforms at different depths during the impact process in real time. Parameters including positive and negative pressure changes (P, P), pulse wave rise time ([Formula: see text]), and energy flux density (EFD) are calculated, and frequency spectrum analysis of the waveforms is conducted.

This study investigated the sexual dimorphism in right ventricle (RV) remodeling in right heart failure susceptible Fischer CDF rats using the pulmonary artery banding (PAB) model. Echocardiography and hemodynamic measurements were performed in adult male and female Fischer CDF rats at 1- or 2-weeks post-PAB. RV systolic pressure and RV hypertrophy were significantly elevated in PAB rats compared to sham control at 1- and 2-weeks post-PAB; however, no differences were observed between male and female rats.
