A green, one-step microwave-assisted polyol synthesis was employed to prepare blue luminescent carbon nitride dots (CNDs) using folic acid molecules as both carbon and nitrogen sources. The as-prepared CNDs had an average size of around 4.51 nm and could be well dispersed in water. Under excitation at 360 nm, the CNDs exhibited a strong blue luminescence and the quantum yield was estimated to be 18.9%, which is greater than that of other reported CNDs. Moreover, the CNDs showed low cytotoxicity and could efficiently label C6 glioma cells, demonstrating their potential in cell imaging.

Self-doped CuS nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully synthesized via microwave-assisted polyol process to act as co-catalysts to TiO nanofiber (NF)-based photoanodes to achieve higher photocurrents on visible light-assisted water electrolysis. The strategy adopted to perform the copper cation sulfidation in polyol allowed us to overcome the challenges associated with the copper cation reactivity and particle size control. The impregnation of the CuS NPs on TiO NFs synthesized via hydrothermal corrosion of a metallic Ti support resulted in composites with increased visible and near-infrared light absorption compared to the pristine support.

This study focuses on the extraction of bioactive compounds from date seeds using five polyol-based deep eutectic solvents (P-DESs) in combination with hybrid green extraction techniques, specifically microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), homogenization-assisted extraction (HAE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The optimization of these extraction techniques was achieved using P-DESs showing the highest efficiency for extracting date seed bioactive compounds using response surface methodology (RSM) and central composite design (CCD) approach. The optimized conditions from three green techniques were further applied in the form of hybrid green extraction techniques, involving six binary and three ternary methods, to assess the percentage increase in the extraction efficiency of date seed bioactive polyphenolics.

The utilization of polyols as green solvents for extracting bioactive compounds from plant materials has gained attention due to their safety and inert behavior with plant bioactive chemicals. This study explores the sustainable extraction of phenolic compounds and natural antioxidants from coffee silverskin using the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method with polyol-based solvents: glycerin, propylene glycol (PG), butylene glycol (BG), methylpropanediol (MPD), isopentyldiol (IPD), pentylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, and hexylene glycol (HG). Polyurethane foams (PUFs) are widely used commodity materials, but most of them end up in landfills at the end of their life, which is not in line with the circular economy approach. Here, we introduce microwave-assisted aminolysis with amine reagents that contain primary and tertiary amino groups in the structure. These reagents enable complete degradation of the urethane groups in the structure of the flexible PUFs with a much lower amount of degradation reagent than is typically required for solvolysis reactions.
