Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious but preventable and largely treatable disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although there is evidence that the UK incidence remains stable, rates of the disease, particularly in some London boroughs, remain high, earning it the unenviable title of the 'tuberculosis capital of Europe'. In March 2014 Public Health England published a consultation document on a collaborative strategy for tackling tuberculosis in England. This highlights a growing concern surrounding the issue. In the 1990s, Peru's tuberculosis epidemic saw the country listed among the Pan-American Health Organisation's top 23 countries of heaviest burden. Since then overall rates, although remaining significantly higher than those of the UK, have fallen dramatically. This article uses the observations of a BSc Nursing student undertaking an international elective in Peru to highlight some of the challenges faced by nurses in managing TB and draws parallels with those faced in the UK.

We carried out the health situation analysis in the Legal Amazon through morbidity and mortality indicators and the comparison between intra and inter-state federation of the region and Brazil. Analysis of the health situation, trends, and identification of clusters in the Brazilian Amazon, for the period from 2010 to 2021, using secondary data available in official health information systems. Extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and pre-XDR- tuberculosis (TB) account for approximately a third of pediatric MDR-TB cases globally. Clinical management is challenging; recommendations are based on limited evidence. We assessed the clinical outcomes for children and adolescents treated for XDR-and pre-XDR-TB.

Tongue swabs represent a potential alternative to sputum as a sample type for detecting pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with molecular diagnostic tests. The methods used to process tongue swabs for testing in the World Health Organization-recommended Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra (Xpert Ultra) assay vary greatly. Here, we aimed to identify the optimal tongue swab processing for Xpert Ultra testing.

Tuberculosis (TB), a leading infectious disease caused by the pathogen , poses a significant treatment challenge due to its unique characteristics and resistance to existing drugs. The conventional treatment regimens, which are lengthy and involve multiple drugs, often result in poor patient adherence and subsequent drug resistance, particularly with multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains. This highlights the urgent need for novel anti-TB therapies and new drug targets.

Introduction: In Mexico, respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), acute respiratory infections (ARI), pertussis (Pt), and pneumonia-bronchopneumonia (Nemu) represent critical public health challenges that contribute to morbidity and mortality and are exacerbated by socioeconomic factors and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objective: To evaluate the trends, seasonal patterns, and geographic distribution of major respiratory diseases in Mexico between 2000 and 2020.
Methodology: Data from the National Epidemiologic Surveillance System were analyzed using advanced statistical methods, including Kruskal-Wallis tests, Mann-Whitney analysis, and multivariate analysis, to identify temporal and regional variations.
